Whoever finds the recipe for Imperial Torte, please post it and we can all try! I've eaten the stuff several times, and it's indescribably delicious.

Imperial Torte is a wonderful Viennese pastry - the basic pastry itself is made of various ingredients which I don't know, not having the recipe. There is a layer of superb jam, a layer of marzipan, and on top of it all, a layer of heavenly dark chocolate.
I've heard two versions of the origin of the name - the people who sell it (in Vienna) claim that it got the name from Emperor Franz Joseph as an award; others claim that it's named for the Hotel Imperial in Vienna. Either way, it's a great culinary joy. I know that it can be ordered from some firm in Vienna, but I've no contact information. Besides, if we can get the recipe, we can all try baking it ourselves, and maybe fiddle with the recipe a bit so as to create interesting variations.

Glory to God! Praise be to Saint Euphrosynus the Cook! And abundant thanks to Father Deacon John, who has provided the web site for the Imperial Torte! http://www.imperial-torte.at/150.0.html?&L=en Next step: those of us blessed with the proverbial sweet tooth should, of course, partake of this delight. Aside from that, those who also like to cook and bake, and to fiddle around with recipes, can amuse ourselves and perhaps serve one another by seeking - using trial and error - to determine the recipe for this gloriously edible memento of the Empire. I plan to obtain one to use in celebrating the first anniversary of the beatification of the Blessed Emperor Charles - since he was also Apostolic King of Hungary, the Imperial Torte for that occasion will have to be king-size. Ah, how sweet it is! Incognitus

Here we go again , here we go again  Incognitus you are incorrigible Some of us are fasting - so what do you go and do ? Posts [ yes 2 of them ] on the subject of this wonderful exceedingly non-fasting delicacy. Aequum non est I trust that's correct - it was the nearest we could get to the howl of 'It's not fair" we used to get from my elder daughter when she was young

Its good to see that these annoying series of threads on the inconsequential issue of the loss of Christians' rights to defend the gospel message about morality have moved on to a far more appropriate and evangelicly pressing subject, pastries.

Speaking of fasting - this is a question of traditional fasting, although it may sound a little odd or even humorous to some. I'm sure someone out there had a baba or priest who might have told you this at some point...but... Does anyone avoid spherical (head-shaped) foods as part of the fast for the Beheading of St. John the Forerunner? In which cultures, exactly, is that prevalent?
