Well I don't know if I will help on confuse things, but I thought I would help Rose2 out. I have added Pani before Rose. I think it is neat to have someone else with the same name, not too many of us running around.

Pani Rose

My great-aunt's name was Rose (English for the Ukrainian 'Rosalia'). I think that it is one of the nicest names for a girl / woman. You could always use Rosalia instead of pani (Mrs) Rose. It's much more poetic.

We have a huge Latin Church here dedicated to St Rose of Lima - my wife's cousin is also "Rose!"

While there are women saints named "Rose" as Hritzko says, the name ultimately derives as a reference to the "Rose of Sharon" or the Mother of God.

What is fascinating is the number of flowers we have that are named for the Virgin Mary.

For example, "Lady's Mantle" is actually named for "Our Lady's Mantle" of Protection!

Jonquils, Lilies etc. And even "Mary's Tears" now known as "Job's Tears."

I have an icon of the Mother of God "The Enclosed Garden" in my backyard garden.

To clarify Pani, my husband is Fr. Deacon Stan, a deacon of the Ruthenian Church. Since I get called Pani Rose, I just changed to that name. Fr. Deacon Stan occassionly posts on here as Stushu.

Dear Pani Rose- There is a Byzantine Church in Alabama? Where? Do you know of anything in southern Alabama? I have a liturgically starved friend in Mobile. His family is in Huntsville; perhaps he could visit on his way back from his family?

If anyone is in the Mobile area there will be a Divine Liturgy said tomorrow morning, Monday the 19th at 10:30 at Sisters of the Fort. Call Fr. Ed Beachum at 251-473-1415 before 8:30 in the morning. It was posted in the diocesan paper I believe. Fr. Ed is bi-ritual, and would appreciate hearing from any Byzantines in the Mobile area.

Yes in Birmingham, we are at St. Georges Melkite Church. It is a wonderful church, and strong in Tradition. The Church number is 205-252-5788, Fr. Frank is our priest.
