I think you are right to raise the question about the principle of subsidiarity, which is a fundamental tenet of Catholic social teaching. However, I think it's important to remember that subsidiarity teaches that actions that promote the good of communities should be handled by the lowest level of competent authority. I would argue that in some cases (though by no means all cases), the lowest level of competent authority is the federal government. Perhaps the most obvious is national defense (I don't think anyone will disagree on this one). However, there have been times when particular states have failed miserably and federal intervention was needed-the instance that all ways comes to mind for me is the question of racism and elimination of Jim Crow laws in the South. I agree that it is better for social welfare programs to be handled on the lowest level of government, and I would also agree with you on education. Again, I believe that there have been times when federal intervention has been needed, because of either inability or refusal on the part of state and local governments. The problem is that once the federal government gets involved, it seems not to know when it is time to return power to lower governmental authorities.

I see that many have added some very good points. My intentions are not on what is at this point but how things could become at this point of change. I want to see all Godly values become necessary to get elected.

Any ideas on how we should pray or how we hope things develop in the next few months?

I want to see a culture of education/training. Not just secular, but spiritual too. I would rather see dime a dozen Baptist pastors all over the place than a TV idiot culture. This can't happen when minority special interests divide the voting majority against each other.

Ah, my neighboring state.... it made and makes me sick to see all the articles in the local paper, all the stupid arguments pro abortionists make, none of which hold so much as a drop of water.... The fact that people allow this evil to continue makes me ashamed to be an American.

Forget the old saying, "God bless America."

I recently read a more fitting quote:
"God will bless America when America honors God."

There you have it.
