Dear Friends,

I had dinner with some friends from Pennsylvania last week who told me that there is a miraculous icon in Christ the King Ukrainian Catholic Church in Philadelphia.

Anyone know anything about it?

Dear Alex,

No. I must plead the Aunt Mary rule: "I know nothing!"

But it would not surprise me. Philadelphia is the center of our US Holy Land. William Penn established Pennsylvania with the idea of religious freedom. In 1733, St. Joseph's Church in Philadelphia was the ONLY place in the English-speaking world where the Catholic Mass was celebrated IN PUBLIC.

Later, St Elizabeth Seton, St. John Neumann, and St. Katherine Drexel all had close associations with the city.

Philadelphia is the place where Bishop Sotor Ortynsky established our first Eastern Catholic Exarchate in 1907. It would not surprise me a bit if the Lord rewarded that city.

Bl. Francis Xavier Seelos, C.Ss.R., also served in Pittsburgh as St. John Neumann's assistant--same general area.
