Ukraine beat Switzlerand. frown

Both my favorite male tennis player (Roger Federer - well he's not quite my favorite but I like him a great deal) and my favorite female tennis player (Martina Hingis) are Swiss.

For revenge, Hingis today beat Olga Savchuk of Ukraine in the first round of Wimbledon. smile

What was WRONG with Swiss' penalty kicks! Good gracious.

*I realize it is not THE Ukraine as I accidentally typed in my last post, but it won't seem to edit correctly so I've given up.

Dear Logos Teen,

By the appearance of the celebration provided in the above link by ukraniancatholic, I don't think the Ukranians have really noticed Wimbledon biggrin . Also, shame on you for routing for Calvinists wink !

I have to say the Switzerland/Ukraine game was one of those where both teams deserved to lose. They both played boring, tight football. Any time a game is decided by PKs is also pretty anti-climactic IMO. The Spain/France game today was what the World Cup should be like.

I will be amazed if Ukraine gets past the Azzurri, although I would love to see Italy go crashing out. Particularly after the way they beat Australia (alright who am I kidding, any time Italy loses it's a good thing). Even in the best game Ukraine has played, the defeat of Saudi Arabia, they dont really look in rhythm or like they are playing as a team. Schevchenko has often looked like a man without a supporting cast.

Also, something like nearly half of the Swiss Cantons are Roman Catholic if we are talking in to account confessional allegiance.

Yeah, I thought Switzerland was majority Catholic anyway?

And just because some people don't notice Wimbledon doesn't mean it's not the greatest sporting event this world has ever seen! wink
