Thought this might be an interesting change of pace.
All I could do was laugh. I never knew they were serious when they said Luther wrote his 95 Thesis there.

I know! I thought that Luther was just being hyperbolic or something when he wrote about it... as a former Lutheran, I must say that this is really quite amusing. Yet at the same time it's a clear indication of how disturbed that poor priest really was...

No matter what, As Saint John of Kronstadt said, Luther was a 'spirit' of dissension. Now at least we 'partially' know what caused his grouchy heart.

BTW, I am also quite fond of the Epistle of Straw, as Luther called it when he left it out of the German Bible. The Book of St. James is, I think, one of the best books in the Bible. Now if St. James had just not had the audacity to disagree with Luther's justification by faith alone theory. Can you imagine a holy apostle having that kind of nerve? Can you imagine Luther having that kind of pride?

If anyone has ever read Luther's Table Talk, which would more appropriately be titled Bath Room Talk (in places) or looked at any of the woodcuts he had made, you'd see it was quite obvious the man was obsessed with bodily functions.

Possibly Luther's all time zinger. In the Garden Of Gethsemane, Jesus Christ the man, DID NOT fully understand the difference between law and gospel....BUT Doctor Luther did !!!

Actually, djs, I read your post after I added mine. There was no attempt to pre-empt your pun. I acknowledge you as first among sequels, and Patriarch of Poo and the Caves of Kiev. Axios. biggrin And it is still a most excellent pun.

Forgive me, but the title of this article should have been:

Careful, if Alex hears the words "patriarch" and "Kiev (Kyiv)" in the same paragraph with your name, you will be enthroned and have your own cult before you know what hit you. biggrin wink

No,
I meant that "first among sequels" is so excellent, that it shows who's first.

I have heard people say for years that puns are a low form of humor. I disagree. I think they are hilarious. Given the degree to which he used them, Shakespeare must have liked them, too.

Dear Charles,

Actually, I don't give a rat's ess how you guys spell "Kyiv."

But I will remember it, with a smile, of course, the next time someone makes the argument that Ruthenians are really Ukrainians who don't know it yet - and you Ruthenian guys get all upset about the nerve of someone . . . wink

I, for one, will always defend your rite/right to be who you want to be.

Sorry you and others can't manage to return the favour.

I shared that with my bishop today at our parish luncheon.

I won't bore you with what he said I should say in response . . .

Dear Anastasios,

That's wonderful!

Did you know that Bishop Seraphim of the OCA in Canada defers to the "Kyiv" spelling?

If joining the OCA is what it takes to correct your spelling, then what are you still waiting for?

Praying for your eventual enlightenment in more ways than one, I am

Your humble servant,

Alex
