Photos [ portal-credo.ru] These are excellent photos, but what makes them even better is seeing all the Old Rite faithful with digital and video cameras in hand. Dave

Dave, I especially like the pic of the Easter procession with the large print text so all can see! Paschal Procession [ portal-credo.ru] Thanks for sharing! Dad

A couple of questions: 1. I did not know that the Christmas tree was an Eastern tradition. Is that a Christmas tree in one of those photos? 2. Why do they have a quote from Tertullian at the top of the page?

That's no Christmas tree! It's the chandelier of the Pokrovsky Cathedral in the Rogozhsky cemetry. (though it does look like a Christmas tree, I have to admit)

Fr.,
It's these old eyes of mine. I see what you mean. What about the quote from Tertullian?

Those pictures are beautiful. Where were they taken? They really have an old world feel. I guess it's the women wearing the scarves on their heads.

Dear Dr Eric - Christ is Risen!
The pictures from the link I posted were taken in the Church of St Nicholas, the temple of the Tverskaya Old Believers community in Moscow.
Note - the lamp bearers still wear the short phelonion! I think that this is only done in Old Rite Orthodoxy - as a permanent vestment, that is.

The cross bearer is actually not wearing the felonchik, but a rushnyk draped around his shoulders. The felonchik, is only worn over the podriasnik/cassock, which everyone wears in the Holy of Holies in the Old Orthodox Tradition. Felonchik - http://starovery.ru/files/file_2_3_152.jpg

I stand corrected - I had not seen the rushnik being draped like that, as he was also wearing the podriaznik (perhaps an economical substitute? Or perhaps it goes on the Cross when it is returned to its base). FDD

Sometimes it's used like a humeral veil or vimpers, around the shoulders and, theoretically, between the hands and the cross! I presume you - like me - expect to see the towel tied around the staff of the cross and hanging down!
