Glory to Jesus Christ! Slava Iisusu Christu!

Yesterday, I installed my latest (and, thus far, largest) iconographic project, done for the Russian Orthodox Church of Our Lady in Philadelphia. I uploaded some photos of it to this website:

http://www.holytrinitypoconos.org/dmicons/

Once there, click on "Philadelphia Project."

I just thought I'd share with the members of our Forum. smile

Dave,

Lovely. I only realized that the curtains were part of the project after I went back and re-read the text; they were so realistic, I was certain they were hanging there.

Does this mean that, next time I visit the store, there will be icons available for purchase that were written by you?

Many years,

Neil

Hi Neil,

The store [holytrinitypoconos.org] (or, more properly, my priest in the name of the store) asked for an icon or two to put on display. However, actual commissions always take precedence over pieces for spec, and I've got quite a few icon orders that were put on the back burner while I completed this large project. Small icons can be done during the semester in my room; 8 foot panels are a bit harder to manage. biggrin

On your next visit, you will see several "new" items since your last stop, including various items from Mount Athos, and bronze icons and incense from Chevetogne in Belgium, just to name a few.

I think a very fair description Mark - I have always loved the term 'Gob -Smacked' biggrin - it's very picturesque.

djs,

I think he doesn't have it set up yet. It's a ploy to make folks go to Stroudsburg (PA), find the smallest store in town, and chat with his girl-friend's mom, telling her what a nice guy he is biggrin - only to find that none of his works are there frown

Many years,

Neil, who's been there, done that, and enjoyed all but the last part (finding that none of his works were there)

Is this church the one of "Our Lady, Joy of all Who Sorrow" near Vine St.? I was to their first festival last year. It was good, but the food ran out so fast. I usually go to St. Michael's festival in Oct. Also, St. Nicholas on N. 7th street has one every Nov.

Wow, so many replies! biggrin Where to begin...

Thank you, all, for your kind comments on my work. Thanks especially to my fellow iconographers for their remarks. I am totally amazed that God has enabled me to do this sort of work, and I am humbled to consider it.

Despite what Neil the Irish Melkite wants you to believe, I have no hidden agenda to bring anyone to my church's bookstore, and I have never lured anyone there with the promise of my icons. wink

I don't have a link prepared for ordering information at this time. However, my e-mail does work, so if you have any questions, please feel free to PM me or send me an e-mail.

djs, the icon of the Theotokos was given as a gift to my cousin's baby on the occasion of her baptism, so it isn't available for purchase. PM or e-mail me if you want to discuss something similar.

Mike C, yes, the church is the one dedicated to Our Lady "Joy of All Who Sorrow."

I hope I covered everything.

Dave,

I hope you realize that I was kidding - although I was hoping to find some of your work at the store when I went frown

Neil, I knew that you were kidding! Hence the " wink " at the conclusion of my post. I'm sorry that it wasn't more clear that I was kidding as well. smile

Dave,

As much as a hate the word, the only one that does your iconographic skills justice is...EXQUISITE !!

Your talent is truly a blessing from God. Must say, if I didn't know better, I'd be envious of it. biggrin

Dear Dave,

I was wondering how long you have been painting and if you could show us a more extensive display of your works that we could see? How long have you been painting Icons?

Thanks.

djs, I tried sending a private message but your box was full. smile

Matthew, I promise that I will give a brief "story of my painting" soon. The semester starts tomorrow, but when I get a moment I will write it.

Indeed, God is glorified by this awesome work. Thanks so much for posting so we can all see your Iconography. I liked the portrait of Fr. Alexander Menn as part of the Philadelphia project as well.

God bless you, David Michael, and the work of your hands and may you have many more years in which to bless others...as you have - us.
smile
