I think the hospital would have preferred land or sea scapes on their walls. It is indeed rare for Jesus to be shown with Jewish haircuts and wearing a scull cap etc. Just as like his mother probably never showed her hair in real life either, being a modest Jewish lady.

Beautiful paintings! Thank you for posting them. I might just order some prints for myself, as I'm very, very into the Jewish roots of the Faith.

Peace and God bless!

If we can show Jesus in Byzantine bishop's vestments or dressed as a Roman senator, I guess paintings of him in Jewish garb of a style he may not have worn are OK too. smile

But celebrating Hannukah? I thought that wasn't really established as a Jewish holiday until later.

Dear Chrec,

The Garb might not have been exactly what Jesus would have worn, but it reflects that He was a Jew, and frankly I think a lot of people need to be reminded of that. wink

I don't believe though that any Christians would have been offended by the pictures. Actually I believe they would have been quite pleased. My guess is that the pictures might have offended some Jews. It seems they might not have wanted to be reminded of that fact.

Of course this is only my guess. confused

John 10:22
The feast of the Dedication* was then taking place in Jerusalem. It was winter.

*Feast of the Dedication: an eight-day festival of lights (Hebrew, Hanukkah) held in December, three months after the feast of Tabernacles (John 7:2), to celebrate the Maccabees' rededication of the altar and reconsecration of the temple in 164 B.C., after their desecration by Antiochus IV Epiphanes (Daniel 8:13; 9:27; cf 1 Macc 4:36-59; 2 Macc 1:18-2:19; 10:1-8).
