Just now down on the floor playing with our black and tan dachshund, Sadie. Since she's like a little four-legged member of our family and we're a Byzantine Catholic family, I'm wondering.

Would that make her a.....

- Byzantweiner ?
- Byzantweenie ?

or last, but not least, an....

- ORTHODACHSHUND !!

Pardon me with what may seem to be my irreverence !

Blessings of the Most High God to ALL !!

Sam

I think you sound like a dad very much in love with his pet! Thanks for sharing. Afterall, if we truly beleive nothing happens without purpose, then Jesus purposed that you have your sweetiepie in the family. So wonderful to love aren't they.

Jesus loves us uncondtionally, no matter how bad things are or we seem to be going he is always there, bringing us His peace. It is kind of neat to reach out to a funny little critter and have unconditional love. No matter how bad things have gone that day, they always seem to make it better, and bring us their own brand of peace.

AND I AM NOT SAYING THEY ARE THE SAME UNCONDITIONAL LOVE = SO DON'T GET UPSET. Just being a sentimantal fool. biggrin

Anyone who has a dog that they adore can understand your pet humour! My family's sweet sheltie has been given more endearing nicknames, more compliments, and more silly poems created for her by all of us than Romeo probably had for Juliet!

On the one hand, I did feel a little socially guilty about my love and care for her when my Russian friend said that 'dogs are kings in the U.S.'....

But, on the other hand, I see her as a sweet little 'angel' of sorts, a fellow cohabitator and creature of earth, created by the same God, who helps my family cope with the stresses of life by her unconditional love, her companionship, and her sweet disposition.

Now that some of you think that I am completely crazy.....

I will leave you with a true story...I was watching EWTN in our family room one day, and the dog was lazing around facing the television. There was a sweet British monk who speaks on various topics on television at the time... I believe that his topic that day was St. Francis, and he started saying how 'all animals are creatures of God', and at that moment, the dog lifted her head to look at the t.v., and her ears became alert---she stared for about a good minute in that alert position at the good friar.

If my daughter hadn't been there at the time to witness this, I may have thought that I was imagining things...and for sure, my husband would have thought that I had gone off the deep end!!!! eek

The last dog I encountered from Russia was a rottweiler (really!) whom a friend of mine, who likes big dogs, purchased as a pup - he brought the rottweiler pup with him from Siberia in a railway sleeping car. My friend and his wife got along with the rottweiler quite well, but nobody else did, and they finally had to have the dog put down when the full-grown rottweiler took to attacking family members. Mercifully, this is the only rottweiler to whom I have ever been introduced. Ugh!

Dear Friends,

I grew up with a very conniving feline . . .

A "Byzantine CATolick. . ."

That was my first encounter with that species . . . wink

Sam,
We just discovered this weekend that our parakeets are Biz-zy Catholic birds...female laid her first clutch of eggs in December. After weaning the two that lived and throwing them out of the nest, she rested a few days and laid a few more. They were weaned and thrown out and she started laying again, after a few days rest. Any one know how to teach NFP to parakeets...

(on a serious note, if she doesn't stop what she is doing soon, she will not survive...she is only supposed to lay two clutches a year, but I don't know how to stop her. Any chance there is a parakeet breeder or two on the forum)

Unfortunately both pets chez nous are Roman Rite.

The cat is gray and white, thus a Poor Clare, (although the vet and I concur that she has some Russian Blue traits). Maybe this would mean there is room for her at the Byzantine Nuns of St. Clare.

And the Chuhuahua is obviously Roman Rite.

Peace and Joy!

Gesundheit! :p

I am so glad there are lots of pet lovers here in additon to our common devotion and love to the Most High, creator of all we love. I am teaching my 2.5 years male SI Eclectus Pookie how to say "Slava Isusu Christu"!. Once he masters this, I guess he will go from being called an "Ekkie" (I bet you can smell it coming from a mile away) to an "Ukie". biggrin LOL no offense to anyone please, just a play on words.

Many years,

Michael (who used to talk to himself but now talks to his bird, who answers back)

Yes, we have four felines in our pet family. They are definitely Catholik cats. And they are full of unconditional love and affection--a blessing from above no matter how much work involved. When the kids left home we filled the nest with our cats. Not that we don't still cherish our human family. They just don't live here full time anymore. Of course, as our children left home and had their own kids now all have kitty kids too. So it goes with kitties, kids, and Catholiks. wink
