Dear Pani Rose, I personally prefer one similar in style to below: [ Linked Image] My only issue with this one is that the IC XC is missing from around Jesus, and the I AM is missing from the halo. For an icon, I found these desirable. This is from the same site, a year later: http://www.serfes.org/spiritual/march2001.htm To me, it is much better. However, this one is my favorite: [ Linked Image] It depicts the Holy and Life-Giving Cross in the background. So deep in meaning to me. Michael

Michael, Christ is Risen!
Of the two examples that you posted, I like the second one better. I am not a fan of Monastery Icons or how they take liberalities with the rules involving iconography.
In the Risen Christ, Father Anthony+
Everyone baptized into Christ should pass progressively through all the stages of Christ's own life, for in baptism he receives the power so to progress, and through the commandments he can discover and learn how to accomplish such progression. - Saint Gregory of Sinai

I agree, Father. The second one is a favorite of mine as well.
Are there any special prayers associated with christ the Good Shepherd in the Byzantine tradition?

I am not aware of any special prayer, but maybe Alex (Orthodox Catholic) or Diak may know of one.
