Dear Rostislav,

(Did you know that St Rostislav, Prince of the Czechs, who received Sts. Cyril and Methodius, has been canonized a saint? There is also a St Rostislav, Grand Prince of Kyiv.)

Actually, I already have a favourite Orthodox discussion group that I visit too much, or so some tell me.

It is: www.byzcath.org

I've seen some others who appear to have tried to imitate it - although no longer.

These I lump under the general URL: clone.uhg. wink

Orthodox Christians of all stripes have participated in this forum and continue to do so to everyone's benefit.

Some Orthodox posters here seem to be more "Catholic" than Eastern Catholic ones - and the latter can get pretty ugly when it comes to Rome.

Thank God for our Orthodox defenders of Rome! smile

Alex

Really? I wonder why anyone would try and imitate someone else's board. I know of some other boards that are temporarily down that appeal to an entirely different stream of people (and are thus not in competition with byzcath), but I've never seen anything that imitates byzcath.

In Christ,

anastasios

Dear Tasos,

You are right!!

That's because it is impossible to even approximate a high-class board like byzcath.org.

Thank you for clearing that up!

How are your studies coming along? Is the seminary everything you envisioned it to be? In essence, Tasos, ARE YOU HAPPY?

Bowing with forehead down to the ground in front of you,

Alex

Thank God for our Balanced Ecumenical Eastern Christians, both Orthodox and Catholic!
I think Our Lord rejoices at this. I look to the example of Bishop +Seraphim (Sigrist) of the OCA as a great hope. May God grant more such HIerarchs!

Alex, have you seen Vladika's Online Journal??

Dear Brian,

Yes, I know Vladyka, have spoken with him several times and have reviewed his latest book for SKCM.

He is truly a magnificent scholar with a breadth of scholastic and ecumenical vision, that is at once entirely Orthodox Christian.

I cannot say enough about him.

As I can't about you . . .

Alex

I am quite happy! Saint Vladimir's is an excellent place to be. I would encourage anyone to study here. If our seminary starts taking married students I might consider doing follow-up there if needed, as well--it's nice being in an Orthodox institution but I'd also like to celebrate the Eucharist with my classmates!!! :-)

In Christ,

anastasios

Anastasios:

I'm glad to see that things are well at St. Vlad's. Have a good time at Education Day this Saturday! I won't be going (and thus won't be at the OCMC booth, but do stop by there). I'm sorry that we won't be meeting, as I was looking forward to doing so.

The two major seminaries have a conflict this coming Saturday, so I'll be at Holy Cross for the Program on Orthodox Churches in a Pluralistic World with Metropolitan Daniel of Moldavia and Bukovina (and our Albanian Mission Team reunion). But for fans of this forum, both New York (Crestwood) and Boston (Brookline) will be great places this Saturday. New York more family fun, Boston more academic, but both great. Enjoy the kibbe at the Antiochian food booth, and the Serbian booth (for good Balkan cuisine). I hope the Antiochian choir from Kentucky gives you some great Byzantine Music at the normally Bortniansky (and other polyphonic composers) oriented St. Vlad's.

Christ Is Among Us!

But Alex, I thought ByzCath was a CATHOLIC site, (Hence the cath in its name) not an ORTHODOX site. Or are you telling me that I've been wrong all along and this is an orthodox site where the Catholics are guests instead of the other way around???

Anyway MY favorite Orthodox site is http://OrthodoxChristianity.net which, although not completed yet does have a discussion foum up and I think they plan on getting the rest up this weekend.

What do you think of http://OrthodoxChristianity.net [orthodoxchristianity.net] Alex confused  eek

Dear Nikolai,

Yes, there are some Catholics on this board wink .

There are also some Catholics on the board you mention, too, and in a management position! Some Orthodox just might consider that to disqualify it as a strictly "Orthodox" board, you know . . .
please remember that you started this, not me.

I've always found this board to be a place where Eastern Church concerns dominate the discussions, Eastern Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox.

There are always some troublemakers who come on with Latin issues, monarchy etc. wink

And I've learned more about Orthodox Christianity and Oriental Orthodox Christianity here than anywhere else.

I find the level of discussion to be interesting and informative here - as well as generally very welcoming, especially of this "old style Greek Catholic," namely me.

I find I'm generally not welcome on Orthodox boards, especially where converts are concerned. Traditional Latins don't like me either . . .sniffus . . .

So, once burned, twice shy?

And you think I should spend more time posting on chat forums, do you? wink

You are welcome here as an Orthodox any time, Nikolai.

I daresay your Orthodox views would have a priority over my "old style" views as well wink .

Alex

Dear in Christ,

Due to past problems with certain people thinking that I am in the business of "competing" with the byzcath site, I would like to post a disclaimer that the site referenced by Nikolai is MY site, and that I had nothing to do with him posting the URL here. If the Administrator of this site wishes to delete the link, I invite him to, as I have no intent to compete with him and his wonderful site.

In Christ,

anastasios

Nik,

The Byzantine Forum is and has always been a pan-Byzantine and pan-Eastern Christian messageboard. That is why the designation “Catholic” does not appear in the title. This website and The Byzantine Forum just happen to be owned and managed by a Byzantine Catholic, just like the new site you reference will be owned and run by a Byzantine Catholic. We are sorry that those who have created the competing board did not feel that The Byzantine Forum was an appropriate venue for Orthodox Christians to participate in but we wish them well.

Anastasios

Thank you for your post. I understand that you had nothing to do with Nik's post.

I disagree with you when you state that your site is not a competing site. Since The Byzantine Forum was created to be a pan-Byzantine and pan-Eastern Christian messageboard the creating of a board by a fellow Byzantine Catholic for Orthodox Christians is indeed competition. You are certainly most free to compete and I wish you every success. With your knowledge and dedication to provide an internet home for Orthodox Christians apart from this one I am sure it will quickly become a favorite site for many Orthodox Christians.

Best wishes,

Admin
