Peace to all,
can anyone tell me what is the official translation of the Bible (English) of the Catholic/Orthodox Church? I know that the Anglicanic/Protestant is the King James (right?!).
Thank you, Eli
P.S. if there is an online version it'll be great - i have the Douay-Rheims Bible Online but i know not if its Catholic.

Dear Eli B:
The Douay-Rheims Bible, also known as the "Douay Version," is one of the oldest (if not the oldest ?) English translation of the Latin Vulgate Bible by Roman Catholic scholars.
And it's one of the best, in my personal opinion!

When the Vatican translates official documents into English it uses Scripture quotes from RSV Catholic edition (if you've seen Fr Benedict Groeschel's recent scripture series on his Sunday night show on EWTN you'll have seen it. Its often called 'the Ignatius Bible'). The Holy See considers this to be the most accurate transliteration in English.

The Ignatius Bible and the Douay are both good. I am holding off on the Orthodox Study Bible New Testament, since the entire Bible is supposed to be published this year.
