GLORY TO JESUS CHRIST!
GLORY TO HIM FOREVER!

Hello everyone!

Well, I was going thru eBay last night and stumbled across several cross-stitch ikon kits.

I found the site and it's the bookstore of St.Joseph's School for Boys and they're caring 32 different cross-stitch embroidery kits.

They also have a wide variety of other things for Eastern worship and also a wide variety of T-shirts and sweat shirts with ikons on them.

I'm going to try and find their website and web address. I found it by accident last night and can't remember what it is but when I find it, I'll post it!!

mark

ps
I just found the website address: www.auctionworks.com/awstore/stjosephschool [auctionworks.com]

Thanks Marko!

I love doing cross-stitch - I find it calms me down.

Son of a dressmaker, you know . . .

SLAVA ISUSU CHRISTU!
SLAVA NA VIKI BOHU!

Hi Alex

Sorry, I had to correct the link but it works now...

Anyway, go to www.ukrainiangiftshop.com [ukrainiangiftshop.com] and look at their new catalog for 2003. They have a book of cross-stitch pysanky patterns! Also have a book of nice Hutzul patterns as well as a basket cover with pysanky, pussy willows and wheat!

Hey, that's an fund-raising idea for your Ikon prayer group! Have the ladies do some pysanky embrodiery for Easter and sell them. Maybe even have them do some special rushnyk with pattern from the same area the ikon is from... afterall, what Ukrainian woman worth her weight in pirohi can't embroider???

opps, Alex, you missed a stitch...

biggrin

Dear Marko,

First, Christine made me cry over our dogs ( smile ), and now you . . .

My grandmother made me a cross-stitch pattern and told me to keep it.

"When you look at it, you'll remember me and perhaps you'll even remember to say a prayer for me."

Grandmother! I do remember you! And I pray for you still!

Dear Marko,

Thank you so so much for the link! I love working cross-stitch and realize now that if the good Lord had not blessed me with my beloved spouse I could have happily spent my life in a convent creating the beautiful ecclesiastical tapestries and stitched works of art that were created over the centuries. I remember several years ago visiting the Tremont area of Cleveland which is rich with Eastern European churches and cultures. At the time there was a lovely Ukranian gift shop where I purchased a beautiful cross-stitch pattern of the Mother of God and Christ the Teacher. Now, when I DO get that Mother of Perpetual Help project finished .....

I especially love ethnic needlework. I am going to explore every bit of the catalog mentioned! smile

Khrystyna, still mopping up her own tears from the "animals" thread

Hi Alex

I have a small rushnyk that my Baba did when she on board the ship coming back to this country 79 years ago. It's my pride and joy!

I use it for display when I do pysanky and ikon-writing demos. The ladies all ask where I got the beautiful piece of embroidery.

It's the one thing I asked my Baba for before she passed away, the one thing that reminds me of her and brings tears to my eyes....

Dear Marko,

First Khrystyna, and now you too . . .?

Just be careful your tears don't hit the key board . . .

We keep the rather large rushnyk on which my wife and I knelt when our parents blessed us with an icon just before we left for the Crowning ceremony on our wedding day.

The icon is one of Christ that was personally signed by Patriarch Josef the Hieroconfessor on the 50th wedding anniversary of my wife's grandparents . . .

Come on, isn't there any Kleenex around here?

Dear Khrystyna, you can also check out
http://www.yevshan.com
http://www.ukrainianimports.net/embroidery/rushnyk/rushnyk.html
http://www.allthingsukrainian.com/

If you are handy there are also many books with patterns that you could follow. They really do add to the beauty of your icon corner. My wife has made several rushnyks and sorochkas (shirts) for myself and my sons.
