My brother in law who is recently retired from the DOD and other agencies says that there are actually schools set up in some countries which refine ways to scam Americans out of their money. Who would have thought it?

I have a friend whose brother-in-law was nearly taken in by a Nigerian diamond mine. And without a doubt - they DO take your $$$.

The Nigerians also have a very powerful "mafia-like" presence in Tokyo. Best to avoid them at ALL costs! (Not all Nigerians, of course, just those who own diamond mines or run prostitution rings in Tokyo.)

There was a time when these spammers...achem...I mean, Nigerian members of royalty, had found my husband's e-mail address.

The funny thing is that they started out all the letters in such a humble Christian manner, invoking God, etc....

Ofcourse, then the inevitable exorbitant amounts of money start coming up, asking you to put these funds in your account, etc., etc., etc. :rolleyes:

I must admit that alot of thought must go into all these outrageous stories though.

Strangely our loving Sierra Leone brother, has an Indian email address. I wonder why.

When I received it this morning, I wondered if there was anyone we could report it to. :rolleyes: Isn't it time these frauds were caught?

I have wondered if some of the spam I get from Religious Jewelry Store and other entities I have never heard of, comes from the fact that I listed my e-mail address on this forum. Perhaps that was a mistake. As for royalty, Nigerian or useless English-speaking European, my ancestors fought a war to get away from them. A plague on all their houses. Not a dime will they ever get from me. :p

Well, West African scammers have been at it for a very, very long time. Since before internet. I guess the extreme poverty and extraordinarily corrupt governments have a created a culture where scamming is the norm. I know that is a very un PC thing to say, but West African scammers have targeted the black community (on the grounds of "brotherhood") since the 1950's.

I've been told not to even click on links from unknown persons, and yet that means I can't even block them. Or is it just the phishing emails that shouldn't be opened?But, how to stop them from clogging my box? Does anyone know?

I wander if they come back and read the comments or if they think we are blind enough to not talk to one another to figure it out.

Another forum I post on has been getting innodated with spam for all sorts of stuff from viagra to gambling, but it just appears as a post.

They say that actually computers are doing it. The virus picks up someones email address and then uses it to post on forums. That the person who's email is being used is totally unaware of what is happening.

I know from time to time I have received my email address as not being able to be sent to someone or some place, I have no idea of who or what it is.

Oh well, God have mercy on their souls and Jesus please protect innocent, vuneralbe people from any harm as a result of this malice of intent. Through the intercession of St. Isodore amen.
