Incognitus: I don't know; I used to write for a magazine and rarely was my humor mistaken for an insult. I even started using smiley faces, with some distaste, and people still were reacting badly to my witticisms. I finally concluded that it was a case of an overly-sensitive and easily offended poster and his loyal fans. And while I initially was really thrown when he reacted so badly to my joking around -for he is himself quite the wit- after a while I started enjoying getting him going. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.
As you have provoked his wrath, too, I suspect you are sympathetic. And he does frequently leave once and for all. For a few weeks...
