I've watched the movie, 'Easter Parade' and was wondering if anyone has ever participated in such a parade? What ever happened to this American tradition? It seems many Americans are becoming increasingly secular and indifferent to religion. It might be worthwhile to bring back this tradition to highlight the Resurrection of Christ. -Wolfgang

It's been a long time since I've watched the movie, but I don't remember the parade having anything to do with the Resurrected Christ. The parade was done after mass to literally show off the latest fashions. Here's a link; apparently it's still done in NYC. http://www.chiff.com/a/travel-nyc-easter.htm

Glory to Jesus Christ!
Richmond VA used to have the Easter Parade on Monument Ave. I do not know if they are still doing it.
Have a most blessed Great Fast.

I think my grandmother, who's 91, used to participate in Easter parades in Ohio. I'll have to ask her about them. Back in her day, people had a lot more self respect and cared how they looked, etc.. I bet N.Y.C. attracts some real vulgar characters - given today's culture. I still think it would be a good idea in small towns across America. -Wolfgang

The Easter Parade originates in New York City. I seem to remember that it either begins or ends at Saint Thomas Episcopal Church. So far as I am aware, it has never had any religious significance apart from the date.
We do have a Pascha Parade - the procession at midnight, just before the Matins/Divine Liturgy begins.

Right as usual Father Incognitus. Some of us may even have the opportunity to participate in TWO of these parades this year. What do most of the multi calendarists do about fasting between Protestant and Orthodox Paschas. Will most of you feast during Gregorian Bright Week and celebrate Julian Great and Holy Week at an Orthodox Church? Or add an extra week of fasting?

Dont be so technical. Typical Latin way of looking at the world with complex rules. The answer is we will accommodate of course. We will get by as only the Melchites and Maronites are New Calendar over here. I am sure that my North American brothers and sisters will accommodate and manage just as well as we will if required to do so. It can be very rough going around the Churches at the time and having to eat etc at every place. ICXC NIKA
