Greetings all!

I have found this interesting article about El Greco. Originally trained as an iconographer, his outstanding talents were recognized from his earliest days.

This is the story of his odyssey west, his challenges and his encounters. It is a story about his art, his faith and his lasting impact.

Domenikos Theotokopoulos, the Byzantine Catholic from Crete!

Dear Friends:

About a year ago there was an important exhibition of El Greco's paintings in the UK (at the National Gallery I think).

As part of the works on display they had a truly magnificent Icon of the Mother of God, painted by the artist.

I was loaned, under very stringent and monetarily beneficial conditions, by a small church in Crete.

The Icon was originally painted for the church and had never left the temple.

It's too bad that Domenikos started painting "EL Rey" and the Spanish Grandees instead of sticking to Icons.

If his remaining Icons are anything to judge by then he should have stuck to painting little windows unto heaven.

Just as an aside, doctors consider that El Greco may have had some eye condition which made him elongate his figures (sorry but can't remember the name).

Sincerely
defeitas
