I can't grow a full beard. All I got is a goatee. Maybe when I'm older the rest of my face will fill out (to the sadness of my wife). But until then I'll just have to work on the reform of the Western Church.

Mike,
You are in luck. The eastern Code of Canon Law dropped the Beard Requirement with the latest version. You are thinking about the Eastern Code of Canon Law of 847 which required the beard.

A beard is God's glory. Was it faces like baby behinds in 19th-century Russia. It was not! Is outrage!

I know several Byzantine Catholic priests and deacons who are clean shaven. Marc (who couldn't grow a hair on his thirtysome face if he wanted to)

I know several Byzantine Catholic priests and deacons who are clean shaven. Obviously a Latinization.

Or is he aping the Latins? I must admit that lately he has been wearing a tiny beard. What about having a beard contest?

Beards vs. no Beards...
An issue more contentious than any translation preference!

Advice to the beardless clergy: take some balsamic vinegar, rub into the chin thoroughly, and then refrain from shaving for at least three months.

For some reason, I believe facial hair & wisdom go together. That is facial hair on a man . james

I've known some pretty wise women with facial hair too.

If you can grow as much beard as either of these two you will have no problems in the Eastern church. [ Linked Image]

Dear Nicholas - ordinary vinegar might work, but balsamic vinegar will result in a much more fashionable beard!
Dear Coalesco - enjoyed the picture. Who are these two, and what rogue's gallery did you find them in?

Incognitus You are joking, aren't you? I guess some women can grow beards. Did you hear about the female monastic who entered a men's monastery because she didn't want to marry but wanted to remain a virgin. A woman accused her of fathering a child? She never revealed her identity, but humbly accepted banishment from the monastery.
