Ok, never too early to start planning. I'm a newbie to the faith and have never been to Uniontown, but would love to get there this year with my wife and 1.5year old.

I have some questions for you all.

1.) When are the dates? (I know around Labor Day Weekend, but when do events start and end?)

2.) Accommodations? My wife an I would like to go AS CHEAP AS POSSIBLE. If that means camping in someones yard we're game. If it would be cheapest to stay at the monastery, but separate, I'm also game (but is our child ok to stay with mom?)

I think that's it.

Thanks in advance for any info, I really hope we can make it!

Nathan (Currently listening to Jack and Diane and enjoying a White Russian dreaming of Uniontown, PA)

Dear Nathan --

It's great that you're looking ahead, and welcome too! The first two years my family went to Uniontown I didn't care for it at all, as we stayed in a hotel. At the urging of a friend, he said there's nothing like staying on the grounds. We bought a tent, air mattress & sleeping bags, and haven't missed a year in the six years we've gone! I agree that camping on the "Race Track" is the way to go. You go to bed hearing the ladies from Litminova singing the Village Folk Songs, and wake to the sound of Matins & Divine Liturgy being sung. There's nothing quite like it!

There are showers and bathrooms a walk away, so just bring some flip-flops & your toiletries and you're all set. And, $20/day for food should cover your expenses eating on the grounds. You can eat at a chain restaurant just outside the grounds if you prefer.

I'll look for your license plate from Minnesota. Hope to see you there, and have a safe drive!

Cathy

They have dorms, male dorms and female dorms.
They have a field you can camp on. I think we just donated money to cover the costs, I can't remember. You probably would want to stay on the grounds. I think you would miss out somewhat if you stayed in a hotel.
