What did you mean by the New American Church in your first post?
Yes, there are many "christians" that see icons and Statues as wrong and will tell you that the first chance they get.
Speaking of the middle east, we should pray for our Catholic brothers and sisters in Iraq, has anyone heard about the bishop that was captured?

Peace to thee all, Yuhannon  i have many Maronite friends - We have one Maronite Church in Haifa. The story of the Maronite Church (people) in the Holy Land is a sad one. The people of this church had some villages (about 5) in the north of the Holy Land (Upper Galilee). Two of them were destroyed by the Israeli armies and their people were kicked out of their homes (or killed if they refused to leave). The homes and every trace of them were destroyed. Fortunately brave Christians sneaked into the village after they have been kicked out and rebuilt what was left of the Churches - till this day the people of these villages (Eqreth and Beraam - 2qret and ber3em in Arabic) gather in the only standing witness to the existence of their villages and carry on the Maronite tradition. They are still demanding the right to live on their lands - called by the government "Military closed area" - meantime the settlements are eating this Christian land bit by bit. The rest of the villages by the way converted to Melkite - the reason was that there were no Maronite priests left and connection with Lebanon was cut off, and people wanted to get married, baptize their children and berry their beloved one as Christians. However the Maronite Church in the Holy Land is alive and claiming its rights - praise the Lord - Hallelujah! "alleghenymoutains" - what i called the "New American Church" are the 52% Protestants (according to the CIA Fact-Book) ... I may have misused the term (or just invented a new one) sorry.
