http://tlc.discovery.com/fansites/monastery/monastery.html

A new television series is about to premiere on The Learning Channel called "The Monastery". It is supposed to start Sunday, October 22nd, at 10pm. The first series is about men, and a subsequent series planned for early 2007 is about women. The series is based loosely on a series a few years back by BBC which dealt with 6 men from various walks of life spending 6 weeks at a Benedictine monastery in England. For more precise information, please see the thread mentioned above.

well, from the previews on the Site, it looks a little like the worst of the reality shows frown I hope it is better then the "Sneak Peaks" I have seen.

I got to see the BBC series a while back. It was very interesting, and the monks carried themselves well throughout, though there was some worldly baggage for the sojourners. Of course, the BBC often has a more discerning approach to its documentary productions, instead of making them into some sort of game show. We'll have to wait and see.

Thank God for the BBC! It is of course, much more subtle and deeper then most American productions.

Jim,
Is there a link to that previous BBC production?? I wonder if they might have it for viewing online.

Thanks!

Sorry, but I don't know about a link to the BBC production for sure. Someone I know lent me a copy of it on DVD which I have since returned. It was at least 3 hours long, having appeared as a mini-series documentary. I happen to subscribe to BBC America on satellite, but I haven't seen it there. A search at bbcamerica.com didn't reveal the program. I am wondering whether it had a different title in the U.K. Also, it is possible that a search at bbc.com might turn up something.

The above thread has some information about the earlier BBC2 series that may be interesting. Sorry I haven't found a link to the series itself.
