SLAVA ISUSU CHRISTU!

OK,everyone in the Pittsburgh Metro area, get out your calendars and cross off Sunday, Oct 31, 2004.

This is the annual Carpatho-Rusyn Festival at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 185 E. Main St, Uniontown,PA 15401.

There will DIVINE LITURGY IN OLD CHURCH SLAVONIC at 11:15am to start things off. My sources tell me that Jerry Jumba and his cantor students will be singing the responses!!

There will be a performance by SLAVJANE and other entertainment as well in the school hall.

Up-stairs in the school, there will be religious & cultural displays, egg decorating and an ikon writing demo by yours truely.

Hope to see all of you there (that includes Alex and Anhelyna too wink

S'Bohom!

Dear Marko,

Although I won't be able to make it, I would love to hear the Divine Liturgy in Slavonic!!

I respect your Church greatly for maintaining what was our common liturgical language.

The festival will be absolutely wonderful (even without me . . . sniff . . .) wink

I don't know if I told you, but both sides of my family come from the Carpathians.

SLAVS ISUSU CHRISTU!

Just wanted to give a short report on the Festival this past weekend.

The Divine Liturgy in OCS was INCREDIBLE!!! Jerry Jumba out-did himself!!!! There were times when I just sat with my eyes closed and cried it was so beautiful!

I talked to Jerry for a long time after the Liturgy and he told me that he was watching from the balcony and he could see people just closing their eyes and singing from the heart!

Jerry approached me before Liturgy to come and sing with the group but I was suffering the effects of a sinus infection and wasn't too sure how my voice was gonna sound... frown

Jerry was also telling me that he has started an Old Slavonic Chant Group with an Education grant that he received from the PENNSYLVANIA COUNCIL FOR THE ARTS. They meet every Saturday. If they weren't in Pittsburgh, I'd be there with bells on! They have learned 65 pieces of music since April!

Jerry also mentioned something about a book of traditional Ruthenian Christmas carols being printed for the up-coming Christmas season. It has words and music in it. I will let you all know more as soon as he lets me know...

Oh, I did finish the 2 ikons for this parish and delivered them. I have never seen a priest speechless before.... I hope I will have pics later this week to share with all of you...

Mark, did anyone happen to record the Slavonic Divine Liturgy? I'm Glad Jerry is still teaching traditional Prostopinije. He has compiled one of the most complete collections of Subcarpathian Plain Chant! It is a real shame that no Eparchy
(Byzantine Catholic or Orthodox) supports his work. frown If I had a better work schedule, I'd be at his classes at Holy Ghost in the 'Rocks!
