I don't like Cliff Richard but hey....Celebrations and Jubiliations, I've had my final exam today! Goodbye to University College London and hello to the Foreign Office! Went to the pub first, drank a bit, came home, did somethings like type a message then will go out once again. But if anyone is interested, the exam was on "The Middle Ages: England and the World Beyond" - 29 question and I had to three and here they are:

14.b. On what did Muscovy base its claim to be the Third Rome? (Oh...hot potato here )

22. Was conflict or co-operation the norm in the relations of Church and State in the twelfth-century England?

28.b. Did the Byzantines ever recover from the shock of 1204?

While Byzantium may never recover from 1204, hopefully you will be able to recover from your exams.

Nothing a few pints of Mackeson XXX Triple Stout, Old Peculiar, Bishop's Finger, Young's IPA or similar won't cure...Congratulations! You might want to throw in a shot of Moskovska or Imperial Stout to finish it off.

I've had pints of Guinness (x2), 3 tequila slammers, A slow comfortable screw up the wall, Fosters and I am staying home with my housemates, and we have opened wine bottles as well as a champagne. Goodbye to the brain cells...

I'll bet it had something to do with the types of libations described in the previous two posts.

In the 15th century, I believe, a Russian monk posited that since Elder Rome fell into heresy and since New Rome fell with it at Florence, something punished via the Fall of Constantinople,
the only Orthodox Rome left was its Third incarnation - Moscow.

All the info in that sentence, I managed to extend to a page and half...twas the third question I did..why the heck I chose it...hmmm...also the marriage of the tsar to Zoe, as well as the movement of power to Moscow from Kiev/Ky'ev, thus moving it away from any influence from Constantinople. I think I had one or two points but I managed to wring out 5 sides on the question..... ah well...

Waddaya mean a Glass - I bring it back in large quantities - 88 L this time - all from my favourite Winery in the Bordeaux area.

Just wait till you see the Photos I have taken [ yeah I know boasting - not a good idea]

But it's nice to be back - and yes I did remember you all at Liturgy whilst I was there.

Christ is Risen! Welcome back, Anhelyna. Bishop's Finger - a true lady of culture indeed. Shephern Neame I understand is one of the oldest continually operating breweries in the UK. While it's great stuff, I prefer a good pint of Scottish ale like Belhaven or Traquir.

When it comes to wine I go for Byzantine "old country" wines like Mavrodaphne of Patras.

Can't wait to see photos. Who was at the Ukrainian chapel celebrating Divine Liturgy when you were there?

Father is resident in Lourdes - though it has to be admitted he is getting very frail now - uses a cane whilst walking. I find the Liturgy so wonderful - I just can't wait to go back in August [ my 'official' Pilgrimage] when I will have the great joy of bieng there the day after my arrival - hope that makes sense

However Diak - there are 2 Ukrainian Altars in Lourdes !!!

The Church of the Dormition
and the Altar of the Ukraine [ as I believe it is known] in the Rosary Basilica itself - though very very few people know of it's existence and sadly even fewer care

As to the Photos - well I do not have a Web Site so though they are digital all I can do at present is e-mail them to folk.

I have sent a few to Admin to see if he can post them for me - all of the Ukrainian Church itself [ though there are many many more of 'em]

But when it comes to drinks, the best is "rakia" (good old Bulgarian National Drink) and Guinness....and woe befall anyone who dares say that the Irish brew is bad...

I have it on excellent authority thet the stuff here tastes nothing like the stuff in it's natural home territory - do you suppose that also applies to what can be bought across the Big Pond ? :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

I must get down to London some time soonish - hmm how can I manage that.

Now have a good rest for a bit - after all the brain work you need to recuperate :p

Well, when it is mixed with some Harp ( a concoction known by the rather unfortunate title of a "Black and Tan") , Guinness is quite good

Ohhhhhhhh........actually I've entered the boredom/cookery stage and I've got my "Death by Chocolate" cake baking...so if anyone wants to spoil themselves rotten, I'll be happy to share the recipe.

It is tough to beat the old faithful Guiness, indeed. Although my wife insists Beamish is superior... Cork vs. Dublin - a bit of a marriage dispute there.

Over here it is tougher to get someone who knows how to serve a good pint, right temperature, right nitrogen, letting it settle for topping off, etc. We have one close called the Red Lyon which does a pretty good job.

The Irish have a few good ales, too, like Smithwick's and some others. Yorkshire ales like Newcastle have to be in there somewhere as well...I'm getting thirsty with all of this talk. it's definitely not the Great Fast anymore, is it?

When I went for a holiday to Ireland, I managed to go on THE Guinness Brewery Tour where they give you a free pint afterwards....mmmmm....so nice and so frothy too.... Also like Murphy's....

I think I have destroyed a few brain cells in the last few days....
