Dear Friends,
My parish priest said in a homily, "I don't recommend movies."
I think that is good advice.
I'll only say that I just saw, "Bruce Almighty" with Jim Carrey. Also stars Morgan Freeman. Freeman and Carrey take turns playing God. LOL!
There are some prayer beads used in the movie. Are they Eastern?

I didn't see it. My kids thought it was funny though.

From US Catholic Bishops movie reviewers:
Bruce Almighty
Due to an instance of rough language, minimal profanities, some crass humor and an implied sexual encounter, the USCCB Office for Film & Broadcasting classification is A-III -- adults. The Motion Picture Association of America rating is PG-13 -- parents are strongly cautioned. Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13.

Dear Friends, Maybe its becuase i'm catholic or whatever but i thought bruce almighty was one of the worst movies i have ever seen. it is the only one in which i wished i could just leave. I was thankful that I didn't pay for it. In my opinion it was stupid. but thats just me.

Dear Katie,
Were the prayer beads shown in the movie of Byzantine/Eastern Church tradition??

I must clarify, my children are all young adults.
Though I would have preferred they not see it, I really can't do anything but pray and give my reccomendation and strong opinion.
However, I just spoke to my youngest son about it, and he says looking back it was kind of interesting but not all that great.

I have kids ages 10, 12, and 15 at home.
It is very difficult to determine which movies are appropriate for my children.
I think girls can handle "adult situations" better than my son. I don't pretend to know what is good, bad, or indifferent to children's development.
Some parents go to extremes: no movies, others let kids watch anything. Where is the middle ground?
What's a parent to do?
Thanks for listening.
Paul

Paul,
When mine were young, I would put my foot down. But, more often than not they didn't ask, 'cause they knew the answer. I always made the kids double check with their dad before they left.
As they got a little older, we would discuss what we saw in the trailers to the movie before hand. Then discuss it afterwards. This way we always got our points made whether they liked it or not.
