But I think I will cry over the crudity of the add, the enslavement of the people, the greed of Johnson and Johnson, and the continued debauchery of the culture.

Same here. The poisoners twenty years ago nearly destroyed the brand name. Let us hope that this new poison will actually get the job done.

It is in fact an ad in a magazine designed for homosexualist readers. It's unlikely that it would ever appear in a family friendly magazine. Money drives these businesses and not much else. Readers of Better Homes and Gardens would likely raise a ruckus if such appeared their.

It's just that the irony of the ad struck me funny and then sad. Sin really does destroy people and families and societies and I wonder how many care about that.

Y'know, I admit it - I am STILL embarrassed by ads for feminine protection products or condoms or birth control pills or Viagara or Cialas or that guy on the commercials with the creepy smile selling some sort of product described as "male enhancement" or whatever.

I am not fond of buying products that use sex or sexual suggestiveness to sell things to me that have absolutely nothing to do with such matters or that have only tangential relationship to them. Tylenol is for aches and pains in whatever sort of person has them, so do they really have to get so graphic or "cute" with implied sexual references to sell it? I'll answer my own question: No, they don't. ;-)

Anni,

In a way I'm sorry I started this thread. I guess I forgot that there are so many people who are trying to remain pure for their Lord. I am sorry. Sin is ugly. I wish we could turn back the clock and not know that such things suggested in this ad even existed.

Please, forgive me.

Dan,
I really appreciate your maturity in Christ, particularly for your sensitivity in realizing that this ad might cause some people problems. It is hard to know sometimes what might be a "stumbling block" to a brother or sister. For me, the stumbling block this ad represents is that it stirs up anger and disgust, which causes me to judge gay people, not their sin. When I stand before God I am going to need the help of my Savior just as much anyone else.
Pray for me, a sinner,
Michele

Dan, I trust you were reading that magazine as a research project, and that this is not your coming-out. biggrin

Heaven forbid!

I believe Dan got the information from AFA (American Family Association) and not from reading The Advocate.

For once Dan and I are in agreement. That ad is in the worst possible taste.

The only thing that stops me from boycotting tylenol is that in fact I've not taken the stuff for 25 years or so.

Ugh!

I agree the ad is tasteless, but I never take tylenol anyway. Given the drug's ability to cause liver damage, I have never been convinced it's safe. This ad just reflects another greedy corporation looking for a new sector to squeeze profits from.

Incognitus,

It's nice to agree once in a while.

It's surprising how naive some are on other boards. It's hard for some to imagine that this is anything different from two boys on a camping trip having slept on hard ground. Well, some people function alright in controlled environments if you know what I mean.

ByzanTN,

Yes, it does represent nich marketing my an amoral company. I wish that's all it meant.

My old holiness protestant friends used to sing: "I'm homesick for heaven, I've a longing to go." I feel that way just now.

Dan,
Thanks. I must admit that Protestantism is a blind spot of mine. But I seem to remember that over the past couple of decades issues involving homosexuality and the Christian understanding have proved highly divisive, even traumatic, in some Protestant Churches. Can you offer any information and insights along that line? This is not a trick question; I know next to nothing specific and I would be interested in knowing more.

you can buy generic tylenol for about $1 a bottle, and it is just as effective as the over-priced brand name medication.
