A Polish author on the Hutsuls? That sounds like an objective read . . . smile
Dear DR Alex,
I know that you are just being funny and everyone likes that about you. smile But I think that there is not nearly the kind of animosity among Poles for the Lemko's, Boyko's, Hutsuls and Ukrainians that sometimes is portrayed. Of course we know about the terrible history the peoples clashing as they did but most Poles can look at these cultures and see themselves. Your typical Pole was also the victim of these terrible historical forces.

Let us not forget that southern Poland was settled by the same people as the western Ukraine. I have known and met many Poles (I am also half Polish) and I don't see deep seated prejudices. I hear not a word!

I admire the Rusyn people, the Ukrainian people and the Byelorussian people. The more I learn about each of these the more I learn about myself.

I would not dispute that unjust and cruel things happened all over eastern Europe and I am not trying to rewrite history. I just think that you, I and Met. Sheptytsky and that anonymous Polish author could all agree that the time for acrimony as over. Of course, there's always time for witty repartee! wink

Dear Coalesco,

Yes, of course! wink

There are many Polish scholars who are very sympathetic to the situation of the East Slavs under Poland in history especially.

I would hope that BOTH Poles AND Ukies feel the same as we do on the matter!

Had Poland and Ukraine been joined together in a common alliance, that really would have rewritten the history of Europe.

I think an alliance of Poland and the Ukraine was already tried, but one of the partners was unhappy with the relationship.
