Alice:

Don't be so sure that "the basics of faith or the Faith" are taught prior to First Communion.

Besides, how much can one put into the mind of a second grader? There are many who stop there so that doesn't mean much anymore.

Beyond that, I taught a class for public school kids and the level of the book we had was so poor that if it were nourishment we'd have to call it stock, not soup.

In Christ,

BOB (who had two children in a Catholic elementary school)

The Roman experiment to reduce the faith to classroom principles is a mixed bag to be sure. Everyone learns better when all of the senses are employed. Can the West learn from us or will they continue to ignore the obvious?

I was rather surprised when I found that pocket "Way" a few years ago, having seen most of the rest of their catalog - rather new-agey. But good is where you find it. Just as most of us have one or two Monastery Icons ("The McDonalds of Icons!") lurking around the house, I have some good books from otherwise dubious publishers.

I can live with that. wink

Will happily confess that my "Way" is the Shambala one - I was just so pleased to be able to find it without any hassle - that I snaffled one of the last 2 copies in our Glasgow Pauline Media Shop.

John S --As to combating the spreading Buddhism influence - how about a small [ I do mean small wink ] Dyptich on the corner of your desk where you can see it easily - and others will have to deliberately peek to see it ?
