Shlomo Teen,
Yes I am part Scot, but I do recognize the benefits that I have received by accident of birth.

Shlomo Anthony,
Well you have to take that up with Our Patriach, the Syriac Patriarch, the Assyrian Patriarchs, and the Chaldean Patriarch; as well as the heads of the Syro-Malabar and Syro-Malankara Churches. To quote from Fr. Salim's book Captivated By your Teachings.

Communal Sin

In the recent past, there had been an exaggerated sense of sin as a quite private affair: we often asked God to forgive "my sins," as if our sins didn't hurt anyone but God, and possibly ourselves...Yet today we have again recovered a sense of the parallel reality: that sin is an offense against others - both as individuals and as a community.

Our Maronite Tradition of Sin has something to say about this sense of social sin...Rarely do the prayers of the liturgical tradition speak in terms of the first person singular- "I." It is almost always "we who sin... [pg 252]

So as you can see within our Tradition we have a legitimate theological position of social or communal sin.

Poosh BaShlomo Lkhoolkhoon,
Yuhannon

I too believe this thread has spun out of control. I ask the Administrator to close it.

Yuhannon,

Communal sin is, as you've illustrated, a very real phenomenon. I know that the Latin Church often emphasizes communal sin, i.e. none of our sins are purely private sins.

However, isn't this different than ancestral sin? I'm not talking about Original Sin, but actual sin. The only inherited "sin" (or rather lack of God's fully Grace within us) in Christianity is Original Sin, as I understand it.

Perhaps you could provide more sources on this "inherited sin" concept. Seems very Old Testament to me.

Dear Professor Dan,

You are indeed lucky!

Not all the privage messages I get are necessarily ones that would fill me with a sense of gratitude . . . smile

Lawrence,

Thanks for the link. I pray that with this tiny step France and maybe Europe will learn that a civilization cannot survive without some cost. One cannot constantly back down to bullies and expect to survive.

Here are links to three articles that are very astute.

What do you think?
