Myles,

Many of the churches which were destroyed by the Communists, mostly during the 1930's, are currently being re-built in Kyiv and around Ukraine as part of an ongoing project to reclaim the millennium old Ruthenian/Ukrainian Christian patrimony. These churches are being rebuilt as closely as possible to resemble the originals.

In the new world, Ukrainian immigrants have often adopted these baroque styles for their churches. Here are a two examples:

Kozak Baroque Style (Toronto)

Rococo (?) Baroque Style (Montreal)

They are not as beautiful as the originals found in Kyiv (first) or Lviv (second) but they are very popular with non-Ukrainians.

This is my favorite example of the type around Chicago (that I can think of), St Nicholas Ukrainian cathedral. I have spent a lot of time walking around it just to observe. [Linked Image]

Friends,

Thanks so much for these pictures. I can sense several pilgrimages in my future. I am so grateful to God for bringing me into such a beautiful patrimony.
