Dear Friends,

How may one teach sexuality within the context of a religion course to teenagers?

Instruct the parents first. Then give them approprate materials, and ask the parents to do the teaching.

But why are you posing the question on the ByzanTeen Forum? I would think this belongs in another forum.

Dear Father Deacon,

I thought this should be here because this is the section dedicated to teenage issues (?)

Please feel free to move it wherever you feel it should be, Father Deacon!

Actually, the ByzanTeen forum is listed as "a meeting place for ByzanTeens." Since we are both beyond our teen years, let's move it to "Town Hall."

Dear Father Deacon,

Are you saying that when teenagers meet they don't talk about sex? wink

I bow to your decision!

Alex,

Your Catholic Natural Family Planning office has a seminar called "The Wonder of Myself" (or something similar). My wife took my daughter to it (a parent must attend with their teen). Perhaps you could get a natural family planning instructor to come to your religious ed class to present all or part of this program.

My wife gives the program a thumbs up.

So did I. As a school teacher, I wouldn't even think about teaching teenagers about sex. They know much more about it than I do. biggrin

Sorry, Alex, but I did not not see your last comment until this evening. Had I seen it earlier, I would not be offended, but rather deem the comment inprudent for a forum designed for teens. Given the fact that there are predators lurking about in cyberspace, I certainly would not want someone to misconstrue your comments on the Byzantine Forum.

Hi the best sex education is a book called

"Good News about Sex & Marriage" by Christopher West. It has like questions and honest answers about human sexuality according to the Catholic Teaching.

I just finished that book and it's truly a G-d send to have the book. I HIGHLY recommend the books not only to the teens but to EVERYONE.

It is a summurized comprehensive book based on John Paul's Theology of the Body.

You can find it in:

www.christopherwest.com [http]

You can also look in www.giftfoundation.org [giftfoundation.org] as well.

I promise you, you will NOT regret it.

In there, it speaks of Western Language, but the concept is very Eastern.

Blessings,

I hear you on that one. It was fundamental human sexuality that kept me in deep trouble with my parents through most of my teens. biggrin

I taught middle school for 1 semester last year - that would be ages 13-15, approximately. The students talk openly with each other and in front of the teachers about sexual things. I think part of the reason for their sexual knowledge is that movies and television have changed so much since I was a kid. Thats where they pick up a lot of their sexual knowledge. Most of them have spent large amounts of time in front of the TV by the time they reach their teens.
