Alex,
Are those snapshots of you in the white T-shirt denim overalls on the site?
What are you going to be doing on the program by the way? What's the deal?

Dear Lauro,

It's a program where the contractor, Mike Holmes, comes to your home and fixes what others messed up.

I'm just standing around with "she who must be obeyed" and trying to make snide/cute comments ( sort of like a secular Byzantine Forum wink ).

I kept comparing Mike to Sherlock Holmes and, in the end, presented him with a book on the adventures of Sherlock.

It was a great experience.

You should have asked Mike for some hints on hanging icons into drywall.

I'll be sure to watch it..

Alex, I wish we got that program in this part of North America, since I wanted to see what you look like and put a face with the name. The local cable company does not carry that program. I'm sure you don't look anything like that avatar. wink

He liked my icons . . . smile

Dear Paul,

Mike was so angry, he tore down the walls of the laundry room with his bare arms (he looks like Hulk Hogan!).

My favourite moment came when we put on the TV during a 4:30 pm airing of his show.

The producer and his film crew stopped everything and sat down to see it . . .

Mike shouted upstairs, "Where is everyone?"

He came up and began watching himself on TV as well . . .

I should have made a picture!

Dear Charles,

Well, I do tend to wear a lot of blue . . .

And I think I've worn out the Administrator's patience by going well over my agreed number of posts for one day!

You'd think H&G TV would show "Tanya and Alexander" in the states. Don't they understand the star power they are missing by not showing it down here? With decisions like this H&G may not be around much longer.

CS,

It looks to me, from reviewing the website, that one can access still frames and play the video trailer. If you go to the page that I've linked here [holmesonhomes.com] , you will see each episode described and see links on the far left for "gallery" (the stills) and "trailer" (the video).

The episode starring Alex is not yet posted and I can't tell from those that are what the lag time is between an episode airing and it being posted to the website. Perhaps one of our Canadian members who is a regular viewer can discern that from what's currently there versus what they watched recently.

Many years,

Neil

My bride said a man who resembled St. Joseph came with a tool box to our house. He looked at the work I had done on the place, shook his head and said. "You asked for too much." biggrin biggrin biggrin

Randy,

If you're gonna own a barn, I believe there's a requirement that you be able to fix your own roof. Think I heard that on "The Waltons" - although, as I recollect, "Petticoat Junction" held to the contrary biggrin .

Dear Friends,

I just heard that the show is making a pitch to a U.S. station . . .

We met the cameraman in a store (he lives near us).

He said the show they took with them to make the pitch with was . . . our show wink .

(It's only because Mike gets really angry on it . . . I think it's because of my many entertaining quips! O.K., who am I kidding, it's the former . . .)

Don't forget to include Alex, now that he's a TV star in his own right. You will need the Ukrainian perspective, as well. wink BTW, those old shows are still being watched and many in the audience are youngsters. They are as familiar with those characters as anyone was during the days when those shows were current.

Dear Charles,

I'll only be a star when the show goes into syndication . . .

I kept making puns on the real star's last name, comparing him to Sherlock Holmes.

Let's see how many of those make the final cut . . .

If the "Ukrainian perspective" is shoddy workmanship by recently emigrated tradesmen - you can keep it! wink

I think we were thinking more along the lines of one of the Fox Network shows with political commentary. There is one show called something like, "Hannity and Colmes" with one being liberal and the other conservative. Supposedly, we get two viewpoints from them. I have only seen it a time or two since I find political commentary a little boring. But this show, at least, is not a shouting match like some others.

Dear Brad,

Actually, Mike was on his knees for a lot of the segments, putting in "Nu-Heat" and the like.

It made the floor so warm, my wife took off her shoes and did a little dance.

The producer was so impressed, he asked if she could do another take, this time for the camera!

They expected something philosophical from me at the end, so I turned to Mike and said, "From now on, when a contractor should ever say, 'Trust me!' - I'll respond by saying, "Does Mike Holmes trust you?!"

They liked that smile

Well my dear friends,
I watched the episode last night (and even taped it for Anhelnya, which is now en route to my birthplace of bonnie Scotland) and was delighted to see Alex's home, beautiful, I should add, back in good order.
It appears as though Alex's dear wife stole the stage.. or perhaps some of his best work was left on the editing room floor wink
I loved the presentation of the Sherlock Holmes book you made to Mike Holmes.

Well done indeed Alex...

Dear Alex,

I can definitely see your personality in the first photo where you and your wife are welcoming Mike.

It is really interesting to be able to finally put a face to a poster...sometimes I visualize posters as looking or being like their avatars!

However, in your case Alex, I wasn't able to do that-- for obvious reasons!!! :p

Thanks for the pics!

And what a lovely laundry room you now have! smile

I hope that you didn't misunderstand that! (oh the dangers of the written word!) frown

Just checked out the site and the gallery from Alex's episode is there...

After seeing what Mike looks like, I'm glad we don't have this show on our cable line-up; I have enough trouble getting our 16 year old daughter away from the tube when hulking construction types are on(she has crushes on the guys who rebuild cars, motorcycles and the guy who used to be on Trading Spaces, Ty is his name I think).

OH WOW

I have just been watching the tape biggrin

I'm speechless - Alex and Tanya ,and that lovely wee dog even got into the show too.

However long were they with you Alex ? That cannot have been a fast job - but oh it was certainly worth all the hassle at the end.

Truly a beautiful house

Dear Anhelyna,

That took about four weeks of filming plus the work . . .

And now we're getting calls from companies who want to do commercials in our home!

They're prepping for a Clairol commercial there today!

Alex, considering the circumstances and expense you had in restoring the home.. I hope you're charging them by the minute for use of your home. wink
