I must admit that, once in a while, I throw a counterpunch when the jabbing becomes persistent (and irritating)! wink

But on the whole, I just hum along and go with the tide! confused

It's all fun and games until they start posting in cyrillic languages.

And, no matter what, you may never find the actual King of Ruthenia nor be able to personally venerate the relics of St. Melk.

I must confess to having not a clue as to the location of the relics of St. Melk. OTOH, I would assume the King of Ruthenia would be found in Ruthenia! Unless, of course, he is in exile. If so, perhaps the UN can be of assistance. wink

Hey - speaking of Ruthenia, in the latest Yevshan catalog I received this week there is a band called "Ruthenia". Sounds like slam hopak music. smile

It would seem I have unleashed a torrent of silliness! But at least I can understand what you all are saying ... mostly.

"Where's the food" huh? Sounds like my old Lutheran parish - if you could guarantee Jell-O molds in the proper liturgical colours anyway.

Carry on with your unbridled fun.

It's no good Carole - this IS the Byzcath Forum - and we get these silly days.

Oh yes - there's also a lot of other stuff as well and to be honest much of it goes over my head , but it's the constant dripping syndrome - somebody sometime mentions something and then ...........

you get that great big bell ringing in your ears biggrin - hang on a minute - I've heard something about that before - and another piece slots into the puzzle.

Just remember one very important fact

if it's bizarre it's Byzantine, if it's bizarre it's Byzantine , if it's bizarre it's Byzantine biggrin

The Holy Relics of Saint Melk are of course to be venerated at Melk Abbey, in Austria. Where else would they be?

Quite possibly the King of Ruthenia is indeed in Ruthenia. That would explain why nobody can find him.

If you can find Ruthenia, then you will most likely be able to locate Grand Fenwick, as well. wink Where are Dr. Ballard and National Geographic when you need them? wink

Carole,

When all else fails, ask an incredibly obscure question. Then, while everyone else is busy pontificating on it (whoops, sorry, I meant to say "discussing it" :p ) and I'm off trying to find an obscure but relevant link regarding it to post, you'll have a day or so of breathing room to catch up on the other obscure posts biggrin .

Btw, if you actually understood that sentence, you're making progress eek .

Seriously (I may have to define that word for my brothers and sisters), if you read something that leaves you perplexed - ask - and don't be afraid to ask for a more basic explanation than might be first offered. You aren't alone; we've had a significant influx of new posters these past few months and it has never been our intent to have 2 clubs - 1 for "us" and 1 for "the rest of you" (or, if it is our intent, they didn't invite me to be one of "us" frown ).

Even the seeming "in" cool jokes and references can be explained (mostly) biggrin . Sometimes we forget that not everybody knows the tale of Alex's moment of television home-improvement show stardom, understands Incognitus' devotion to Saint Melk, knows that KO63AP's nick is really a clever usage of letters and numbers to mimic the Cyrillic characters for "Kobzar" (since the name function doesn't offer him that option), realizes that Roger/Berean really is a Baptist minister in Ireland, knows spouses of others by name, or is privy to knowing who are the "resident experts" on various topics (e.g., Andrew Rubis on the Italo-Greico-Albanians, Dave/Chtec on iconography, Yuhannon on the Maronites, myself on vagantes, Incognitus on obscurities of all sorts, etc.).

When we forget to be clear about these things, feel free to hit us upside the head. Remind us when we do our "inside" things - we'll squeal wink on each other without a second thought.

Many years,

Neil
