Looks like Ohio and Penn are way ahead. I guess that makes sense, the center of American ByzCath Faith.

Land is pretty affordable there too isn't it?

But think of the problem if we put this place in Ohio or in Penn....

All the dads will have beards, women with headcoverings, children running bearfoot aound the farmland... it has Amish written all over it!

And they make a killing off of the tourist industry...

"Tour the Byzantine Village! Eat Homecooked meals! Stay in a B&B with no electricity-- just beeswax candles! Enjoy World Famous Byzantine Brew! Taste home-made kovbasa, borshch, and halushky! Come and watch a heated debate between 2 Ukrainian men as both of them break away from the community to build 3 different autocephalos parishes! Drama! Drama! Drama!

And will Xenia marry Athanasios? What will crazy Cyrill do next?

Come and visit the Byzantine Village, and find out!

And make sure to check us out on the web at wearentamishatall.com!!"

Etc., etc. Now, who has a degree in Marketing?

That sounds more like Texas to me. Anyone know the price of land near 'Dallas'?

Hello all! I didn't vote, so I couldn't see the results yet. I was posting on this same topic of where it should be in the other thread, where I mentioned that Penn is one of the worst homeschooling states and Ohio is not all that great in that regard.

The two best states to homeschool in are Alaska and Texas. Alaska has a very high cost of living index. Texas' is very low. The Dallas area is one of the major corridors of growth (Illinois being another) in the US, which will bring a long track of business from the San Antonio area all the way up to OK City. Texas passed a very strict amendment to the state constitution barring all forms of gay marriage or unions and passed a parental consent bill for abortions, as well. According to this [humaneventsonline.com] website, Dallas suburb Plano was listed as the second most conservative city in the US for not raising taxes in 15 years and having a congressman who introduces a bill to repeal the 16th [en.wikipedia.org] amendment every year. Dallas and Austin both had a cost of living index of 92 last year. Austin still has some large tracks of land on the outskirts of town, and it appears to be growing northward. For comparison, Philadephia's cost of living is 123 and Columbus, Ohio is 100. (lower is better and 100 is national average.)

I looked up "acreage Dallas" and clicked on the fifth one down --Acreage for sale. There is a listing for 80+ acres going for $880,000. That's $11,000 per acre. It says it has creeks, springs, beautiful acreage. And the owner will drop the price if you gain access to it on your own. The address is to a small city that is a suburb of Plano, which is a suburb of Dallas. It borders Southfork ranch where the famous show "Dallas" was filmed. It would provide quick access to the entire Dallas area with what Mapquest says is a five minute drive to Plano and a ten minute drive to a major freeway. Other acreage further north (about a 30 minute drive to Plano) appears to go for as low as $5000 an acre.

Texas climate can be seen here [met.tamu.edu] .

For Eastern Catholic churches in Texas, it looks like the Dallas area has the most. The Dallas diocese lists a Syro-Malabar Mission, a Syro-Malankar church, a Ruthenian, a Maronite, and a Ukrainian church.

Perhaps Dallas isn't a silly suggestion afterall.

I threw in an Other vote to be able to see the results and I see that Down South is coming in second.

Homeschooling wise, here are the states and territories I would recommend staying with: AK, ID, TX, OK, MO, IL, IN, MI, CT, NJ (and Guam and Puerto Rico) and second tier: CA*, NV, AZ, NM, UT*, WY, MT, NE, KS, WI, MS, AL, KY, DE, DC* (and the Virgin Islands). I think we can all agree to throw out DC and California, due to the cost of living alone, much less the culture. Utah probably wouldn't be the best idea considering the Mormon population, which is highest the further out you go from the major cities. And the territories probably won't garner much support, so I'll remove them as well. So that leaves:

AK, ID, IL, IN, OK, MI, MO, NJ, TX

AL, AZ, DE, KS, KY, MS, MT, NE, NM, NV, WI, WY

Anyone have anything to add to the above, pro or con?

All go to Tasmania. They are big on home schooling. Nice place too.
