Is there an Eastern Catholic parish(es) in the New Orleans area that is helping people with the aftermath of the Huricane? Or are the parishes in that area also underwater?
Either way, Would this be a good avenue for people and parishes outside the area to send financial aid? Wouldn't the local church(es) be in tune with the locals and their needs?
I am not suggesting that we help only our own , rather I am suggesting that we help everyone via our churches, so that our churches as a whole do something for the victims (and are seen doing something). (Heck it is also a way we can evangelize.)

St. Nicholas of Myra is the only Greek Catholic parish in New Orleans to my knowledge.

Is the parish able to help the locals? Or would it be better to work through their bishop? Would they be able to directly help, or would they just pass the money on to one of the big groups like the Red Cross? Is this an avenue I should encourage my parishioners to persue?
If so, how can I get a hold of them?

Hurricane Katrina has almost certainly caused the temporary closing of St. Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Mission in New Orleans (as well as most other houses of worship in New Orleans). Those who wish to make a donation to St. Nicholas of Myra Mission Parish or for that parish to distribute to those in need can send their offerings directly to Metropolitan Basil of Pittsburgh. Make checks payable to the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh and mail them to 66 Riverview Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15214. Notate Hurricane on the notation line of the check.

There is also a Melkite Mission in New Orleans that has been gathering once a month at Loyola University. Fr. John from Atlanta has been going down there to celebrate the DL for them. It is totally destroyed also.

I take it by the fact that you are volunteering this info that you think it is a good idea. I think I will take a voluntary collection in my parish this Sunday.
Thanks for your help.

Dear Fr.: You may remit your parish collection for the "Katrina" relief fund to the Pittsburgh Metropolia (of the Byzantine Catholic Church) as advised by our Admin. Or, send your collection, as indicated by the message of solidarity expressed by The Most Reverend Brendan M. O'Brien, Archbishop of St. John's and the President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), of which the Bishop of your eparchy is a member, to either: Catholic Charities USA 2005 Hurricane Relief Fund PO Box 25168 Alexandria, VA 22313-9788 http://www.catholiccharitiesusa.org/news/katrina.cfm 1-800-919-9338 OR Canadian Red Cross www.redcross.ca [ redcross.ca] 1-800-418-1111 Details of Archbishop O'Brien's message of solidarity is at: http://www.cccb.ca/MediaReleases.htm?CD=468&ID=1703 Amado

Dear Pani,
Didn't the Melkite mission meet at Sacred Heart (Roman) Catholic Church? Are you saying that that temple is destroyed?

Amado,
It is.
Many years,
