Hi Zenovia,
Yeah, I get a kick out of watching some of these televangelists. One I actually LIKE, and who, to my knowledge, never bashes anyone, is Joyce Meyer. She's a very down-to-earth, humble lady, but she doesn't mince words either. She speaks in a way that "normal" people can relate to.
For a long time, I engaged these anti-Catholic "Bible believers" in friendly and sometimes not-so-friendly apologetics debates... and I can honestly say that out of the very many I attempted to dialogue with, I can count on one hand the number of them who were intellectually honest enough to actually listen. The vast majority are wilfully deaf, interested only in being "right.".
What's funny about these folks is that they accuse us of idolatry because we venerate "wood and paint" (icons) and pray before them. But they can venerate paper and ink (the Bible), and pray in front of IT. A lot of Catholics leave the Church because we have "so many rules", and it's "authoritarian." Yet they're willing to join churches that are far stricter, and that are far more "authoritarian." I don't get it...
God bless,
Karen

God bless,
Karen My mom is an evangelical protestant and her hallway is literally covered with pictures of her relatives both dead and alive, but somehow placing on that same wall an Icon of Our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ and His Most Pure Mother, the Theotokos is considered to be idolatry? I just don't get it.

Dear Elizabeth Maria,
I know what you mean. When talking about icons with Protestants, that's usually how I approach it: "You have pictures of your family, right? You put them in pretty frames and set them out where you can see them, right? Why? Do you worship them?" I find that this approach works pretty well...
God bless,
Karen

God bless,
Karen What compromising pictures! Bibles placed on the floor ... what? Would they do that in 19th Century Russia? NO. Doesn't it look like they are worshipping pascha food baskets? And I bet they wonder about our tradition of blessing food on Pascha! Christ is Risen! Indeed He is Risen!

Dear E.M., You're right, it DOES look like they're worshipping a package of Ferrer-Rochet chocolates. Mmm, yum. God bless, Karen

Dear MzByz: Go on! Send them those foto's, but don't forget to tell them that the Bible they worship was formulated by the Fathers in the Orthodox and Catholic Church. In other words, they are willing to accept a book that was put together and compiled by the very religions that they reject. Strange! Also let them know that the New Testament was written in Greek, so they really don't know what it says. All they have is an English interpretation of what they think the Bible says...not the same thing. Zenovia

Zenovia Hmm... now I'm getting all sorts of ideas. Perhaps this calls for a new page on my website-- "Fun With Fundies" would be a catchy title... just kidding. After all, we want to convert these people, not put them off. God bless, Karen

Karen,
Those pictures are certainly incriminating. I'd send them if I were you. In fact if I can ever figure out how to copy and past pictures I'll do the same thing. Tsc...tsc.

Dear Carole, Actually, the Protestants didn't remove anything from the Bible, except maybe the apocrypha. What they did remove was every tradition that was not in the Bible. Yet what they don't realize was that these very traditions and beliefs that they eliminated were formed and accepted by the same people that compiled the Bible. Those FAthers of the Church were the ones that decided which writings were really accurate, and which ones were not. What they should do then, is study up on the Fathers of the Church, and then decide if they agree with their viewpoint on everything. If they don't, then they should go back to the Bible and eliminate whatever they feel shouldn't be in it. Tell them to have fun! Zenovia
