Couldn't resist! We fuss about China for a lot of things, but now chocolate confused The article says they are discovering chocolate :p However, I don't think I could get use to eating it the way the Japanese do...containing foie gras...sell for 1,000 yen each eek .

Well at least for now, we are on break and not contributing to the possilbe shortage momentarily. wink

I have not decided to deprive myself of my good very Dark Choccie for Lent - that really is a Latinisation biggrin :p

This is the Great Fast and we can and do use good dark choccie as a food - well it contains no dairy so it's allowed , thank goodness .

The Chinese and Japanese can just leave our Choccie alone. We need it , it's essential to our wellbeing.

You are completely correct Charles biggrin biggrin

If anyone feels truly penitential and in the mood for a fasting regimen of utter self-denial, I have some recipes for fresh lobster which do not require butter!

I enjoy Valrhona, Callebaut and El Rey chocolate.

El Rey is my favorite.

The pastry chefs at chef school preferred Valrhona (French) and El Rey (Venezuelan).

I've also had some excellent chocolate from Trader Joe's ... from Ecuador.

The darker the better.

John,

In the states, one of the best chocolates I can find is Giardelli from San Francisco. It comes close to the Belgian chocolates that I love so much.

BEEN THERE! biggrin was very impressed. Yummy Chocs! smile My reward for not having a heart attack on walking so far in San Fran with a back pack on. Tell me who was the idiot who put a city on some many mountains. What looked like 2 inches on the map took ages with all the ups and downs. After a few of those chocs all was fogotten. Very nice Greek taxi driver who was help and informative took me to where I was staying. They said you will not get a taxi I the street, well I did. I must have had that look by the time I arrived in the business centre from the Presidio.

Regarding chocolates:

I have tried Russian chocolates, courtesy of Russian friends and I have tried Japanese chocolates, courtesy of the Japanese food store in my neighborhood, and I must say that they are both very good, and alot less sweet than the more common American chocolates. Greek dark chocolate is literally and brandwise called 'Chocolate of Health', (Sokolata Hygeias) so I guess that says it most brilliantly, and in the end, says it all! smile smile smile

Happy dark chocolate eating!
