Welcome, and I hope that as become comfortable with the board you may grow in your faith by asking questions, and learning form others. I find this board to have many serious followers of our Lord, both as laity and clergy representing Latin Catholic, Eastern Catholic, and Orthodox. It is light heated at times, but also serious. It is an excellent forum to ask, learn and grow. I have been on several other BBS or newgroups, but this one truly tries to emulate the light of Christ by helping their fellow Christian. In the short time I have been with the forum, I have learned and seen this discussed in ways that are educational, and yet have seen true Christian Love in their support for each other. I hope your membership will help you grow and mature in your calling, as an Eastern Rite Christian, but also as a chosen vessel of God.

may God bless you and your family,

In IC XC,
Father Anthony=

Hi Jen and welcome! I came from a Lutheran background converted to Orthodoxy, then came to the Eastern Rite Catholic Church. I finally joined after reading as an outsider for almost two years, then realized how much love and knowledge can be obtained by being here. Glad you are on board and God bless you and your family!

Praise the Lord!

Isn't God wonderful, he takes a bunch of folks that have one thing in common, HIM and let them find comfort in him through each other over a telephone wire. How awesome is our God!

Welcome Jen.

Fr. Anthony I have truly appreciated your being here. I was just telling my husband today that is amazing the number of clergy that are coming on board. That must mean God is doing something here.

I think it is so important that we keep you guys lifted up. Thanks for taking your time to be here and help us grow in the love of our Lord. Hope in some small way that we may also assist you and the other clergy by reaffirming you in your service to the Triune God.

Pani Rose,

I feel that my posts are an extension of my everyday duties that I encounter. I make no distinguishment between here on the board and those I see face to face. We are are all chosen vessels of our Lord, seeking to be closer with Him. My prayer is that we all see it by encouraging and building up one another as St. Paul tells us in his epistle to the Thessalonians.

In Christ,
Father Anthony+

Thank you all for your warm and wonderful welcomes!! I feel at home already. It is so nice to know I have a place to come and be myself and share in our faith!!

I have a question....does anyone have any suggestions on some good reading (books)? Aside from the bible of course - my personal favorite book of all time. *smiles* I haven't found too many online and was curious if any of you could suggest anything for me. Thanks in advance with great appreciation!!

Have a blessed day everyone!

God loves you!!

Hi Jen,

I just finished reading 'Mountain of Silence' by Kyriakos Markidis. It was an excellent book about Eastern monastic spirituality in an easy to read style. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

The Father Arseny books translated by Vera Boutenoff are also EXCELLENT and easy to read!

'St. Nektarios, A Saint for our Times', by Sotos Hondropoulos (and translated, by the grace of God, by yours truly) is also a very well written and interesting book as it is a narrative biography, rather than just a dry biography. It has become something of a favorite both here and in Greece.

That is all I can remember off hand right now.
They are all available on Amazon.com.

In Christ's love,
Alice

One that I like is, "Earthen Vessels: The Practice of Personal Prayer According to the Patristic Tradition," by Gabriel Bunge, O.S.B.

Hi Jen,
I just finished reading "Facing East" by Frederica Mathewes-Green in which she describes a year in the life of her convert family to Orthodoxy. Her husband was an Episcopalian priest who became an Orthodox priest. She came along with reservations. I found it very insightful & readable.
