Microsoft want Windows Media Player

The next generation of DVD is being fought over and who knows which format will win Blue Ray or that other one..

All these formats are just like zip files. The MPEG is inside and the MPEG is extracted and feed to the player - the container is tossed away. Blue Ray is a compression method - and what it will compress is an MPEG.
Prove it to yourself - get a standard MPEG file and drag it to either player - and it plays. The MPEG decoder is built right into the hardware now. You cant play a WMV or RAM or MOV or VOB or anything else - without it - because the MPEG is all that matters and is the only thing playable.
So there is no problem - across platforms - unless you create that problem by using a proprietary container.
Stream MPEG- it is that simple. It is universal.
As far as streaming on the internet - you can pay big bucks for radio and TV and reach a few thousand in your local area - or you can pay just a few grand and reach world wide into the millions. Half of all media takes a hop across the internet now - the public just is not aware it that - because Radio and TV and phone companies have cut their expenses by using the internet for free but still charge you as if they we building all the systems themselves. You have to lift the curtain to see the future - and if you get onto the net stream now - in five years all the other forms you are talking about will automatically be yours too at little or no cost - and world wide.
In any event, I did not mean to offend you - I was just trying to give the Byzantine Church the best value and biggest bang for the buck while positing them well for the near future.
I am done now. It is not really my concern or responsibility.
Cheers.
