I want to recommend to a friend that he check out the Divine Liturgy some time. He is, however, in the Minneapolis, MN area and I don't know if there is an easy way to find Byzantine Catholic parishes around the country.

I'm posting this here because if we're going to use the internet as an evangelization tool (and we should use all the tools we can), it would be a good idea to have a very easy to use search method for finding missions/parishes for people who are not near ourselves. There is a huge difference between telling someone where a parish is and telling them where to start looking for one. Having an easy search tool based on area code or the like would be a good idea, IMO.

IMO, a good place to start is the
byzcath.org website which has links
to the Pittsburgh, Parma, Passaic,
and Van Nuys Eparchies, as well as
links to the Ukrainians, Melkites, etc.
Each Eparchy website has
a list of parishes. You
can't search by zipcode, but at least
you can look for one near you.

Antonius,

I believe it may be the only public directory of our Churches in existence. BTW I'm glad to note that there is a BC parish in "The Twilight Zone". wink

Are all of the missions listed? How does one distinguish between missions and "house churches"? How might one discover where the "house churches" are? How does one discern where "house churches" and missions ought to be established or strengthened? How does one discern which existing congregations ought to be merged? Abandoned? How does one make sure that a thriving Church isn't shut down without due process as was apparently done in Florida recently?

A listing of the Byzantine-Ruthenian mission parishes that I know of can be found at:

https://www.byzcath.org/mission-parishes

Someday I hope to have a full database of all Byzantine Catholic parishes in North America. But that takes time to do....

Mike,

I attend St. John's BCC in Minneapolis. We have an outreach in St. Paul once a month as well.

PM me if you want my e-mail address to send to your friend. I can provide him with information on our community, which is very welcoming!

I may take you up on your offer. I don't want to push things, though. My buddy is, in fact, a pastor at a Protestant church plant up there (MercyVineyard). I'm trying to gauge how he might react if I had people get a hold of him personally up there.
