Dear all,
I am exploring some transportation options for getting myself to the evangelization conference on August 6th. My wife would like to, on the same weekend, attend a retreat in Vandalia, IL and she may then be using our only car. I am going to speak to some people I know if they would be interested in attending the conference with me and share a ride in their vehicle to and from.

Just so I know my options, I was considering taking the train up to Homewood, IL and possibly catching a lift from a generous Homer Glen parishioner. The Amtrak train should* arrive just prior to 8am and my return ticket would depart just before 9pm. I am not averse to sitting at a trainstation for a couple hours since I used to do this sort of thing quite a bit.

I checked up on mapquest to make sure it's where I think it is and you can see for yourself:

Like I said, this is just to explore my options to get there so there need be no commitment at this point in time and it may not be necessary at all in the end. If anyone has any other travel suggestions my ears are open.

*Amtrak is not particularly well known for its punctuality but these schedules have enough padding that I don't think it will be that much of a problem.

This raises an interesting possibility. Some have already expressed an interest in seeing our Church. Perhaps something can be arranged whereby we take some folks from Whiting to Homer Glen at 5 p.m. (1 hour drive). Be at Church for an hour then a trip to the train. It could work.

We can look into it.

Dear Mike,

I'm sure we can work something out for transportation. You could send me a note closer to term.

Thank you. I will let you know when I have more details on what the situation will actually be.
