My wife invited some Mormoms to come over Sunday afternoon to speak about religion. What should I do?

Ray,
From knowledge and experience (I had some Mormon friends early on in my life) they will lead the conversation in most cases. They will get some background information and then try to lead the discussion with some carefully crafted "discussions" which are lead to have you answer in ways that will create doubts regarding you and the faith. They are generally lead by two "missionaries", one senior and the other junior, referred to as "Elder", but in some cases two women, referred to as "sister". Their ultimate aim is to have you convert to their church.
My advice is be on your toes and to carefully listen and pick up on any question that will try to lead you down their path. If you can do some research online before then. Somewhere you should find their "discussions" online. If not PM me and I will do some research for you.
Caution is definitely the keyword here. They have not become one of the fastest growing cults in the world without ingenuity.
BTW, any resistance to answering their questions in the way they want in repeated fashion will end their involvement with you.
I hope this helps a little.

Father, You don't have to worry about me. I am firmly o(O)rthodox. I think anyone with a basic since of History can see right through this cult. American Indians the lost tribe? Please...

Ray,
I did not think I had to worry about you, just a warning that they are very crafty.

Option A: Lead them to Christ and His Church.
Or
Option B: Hide under the bed.

Thanks for the article. My prayers for them and the man who shot them. That is sad. I think it is true that (as someone said above) they do have a definite agenda and plan or system they use in their approach to people. As they go from door to door many of the people they talk to are not church goers or knowledgeable of scriptures and can be vulnerable. Once some years ago I tried to enter into dialogue with two young Mormon men who visited me, but this did confuse them and I sensed it was because it didn't fit into their plan. As I saw them coming I picked up my bible and with bible in hand later I pointed out some scriptures to them regarding the Divinity of Christ. They didn't expect this and departed in a pleasant but fairly abrupt manner. In Christ, Porter

While God will certainly bless anyone, however deluded, who puts his life on the line for Him, Mormonism literally does not worship the same God that Christians do. This despite the fact that they use much of the same terminology. If by "God" we mean what monotheists- whether Jewish, Christian, Muslim or Zoroastrian- have always meant: the One, Uncreated Creator of All, Who is pure Spirit, Who made all things from nothing. They are basically atheists. Mormons believe that God is a highly evolved human, who like every one else is composed of uncreated matter and uncreated "intelligence" [roughly, the soul]. As God was once man, so man can become God. Though they speak of the Trinity, what they mean by this is three [of countless] gods, physical beings...and God the Father had physical relation with Mary to conceive Jesus... Very strange, and very confusing. -Daniel

Here's a Protestant web link if you want to show how the Book of Mormon contradicts the Bible. http://www.irr.org/mit/bombible.html By the way, in Alma 2 it says that Christ will be born in Jerusalem.

A question Ray. Why did your wife do this in the first place? What is her motive for doing this?

My son likes trucks. Next door a house is being built and they had a backhoe digging some dirt out. My wife and son watch the truck for a while then, well you guessed Mormons came by. My wife told them she was a Byzantine Catholic and really not interested. They pressed further to see if they could be with both of us. My went on to say that "my husband often debates with other religions" am not sure you want to talk to him. To make a long story short they invite themselves to come over Sunday afternoon. Next time I am going to ask my wife to hide behind the bushes when two people with blacks ties and are riding bikes come by.

I think Catholic Answers has a good section on debating Mormons.
