Ok - I'm kinda sensitive about distorted pictuers of my mother. Can anyone tell me how to fix my Avatar image? It looks all bent out of shape. I have noticed that others here were able to make theirs fit properly.

Gordo,

There is nothing that can be done at the moment. If you check John's notice in the software update thread, you will find out why and the the anticipated time to correct it. This especially applies to avatars imported from outside of our regular gallery.

I see Gordo's avatar squished.
A solid thin line for Fr. Anthony. _____________
A spaced thin line for AnimeFreak. _________ _ __
A solid thin line for Our Lady's Slave. _____________

The last three are colored across like I am seeing a slice of a picture.

We'll see if the tweaking fixes it all.

Dear Wondering,

In your case it might not be the forum's new software, but two other possibilities. One you are using an older PC and that does not have the graphic capability that the new program is sending out with the graphics. That we can do nothing about. The other possibility is to to reset your display setting in your PC's control panel, to highest 32bit and the slider (resolution) should be all the way over to 1024x768 pixels or better. You are the second one tonight that has brought this subject to light. I hope this helps you.

Fr. Anthony,

None of those are the case with me. New computer, good graphics capability, 32 bit enabled, resolution set even higher than that. Any other suggestions?

Not really. You and one other poster are the only ones so far that mentioned that problem. I might suggest you PM the admin. We were just discussing this issue regarding the other poster this evening. He may have another solution for you.

Fr. Anthony,

Thanks. I wrote him. I am wondering if the problematic images are from the ByzCath library. The only one I see on this thread is Gordo's. Does anyone else have a non-stock image? Animefreak's wasn't stock last time I saw it, but I don't know if it has changed since then. I don't see mine (which is imported), but sometimes weird things happen with your own so I won't take that as an indication.

Wondering

I'm on my old iMac at present [ long story frown ] and it is certainly pretty poor in terms of modern Computers [ a 10GB hard drive !! and not much memory a mere 256 RAM ] BUT I can see everything OK - whether Avatars were from Byzcath or not.

The other thing that might be worth checking yourself, is switching to a different Browser . I have heard of quite a few folk in the UK who are experiencing problems with IE7 - I'm using Safari , Firefox , and Camino at present . Camino went on yesterday and I find it's actually making quite a difference with this elderly machine - everything is much crisper.

Anhelyna,

Good suggestion! I switched to Firefox and can see them all now. Yours is highly pixelated, but it is there. Mine's not too bad. Fr. Anthony's is great. Anime's is tiny but proportionate. Gordo's is still squished. smile

Must be something wrong with IE7 and the new upgrade.

Yes, there is, they are trying to take someone else's program, and in this FireFox and make their program run just like it. Unfortunately they seem to miss the formula again. I forgot that I have been using FireFox only all my computers, PC and Mac for a while now. Thanks for helping us solve this mystery. smile

Just to show that some of us Macheads occasionally read about PCs [ well my husband uses one frown ] I understand that if you remove IE7 it reverts to IE6 - and this should solve your problems.

I always say

I want that as a sig - think I'm going to have to type it in on every post:)

Well, one mystery solved and another arises. I've not upgraded my browser apparently, so the issue is with IE6 and the software. I'll keep using FireFox instead.

Dear Wondering.

Not really. My IE6 works well with the the new software. I just checked it. Again it is something with your computer. The laptop I am using is two years old, so back to the mystery. It has to be a setting somewhere in your computer display or preferences with the IE program. My guess here, is something on your advanced options is either checked or unchecked. I will not even venture to speculate what at this point. BTW, I never upgraded on this laptop from IE6 to 7. I did though on my desktop (which is now only 1 year old) a while back and still do not have the problem. I keep IE on both because Microsoft will not allow updates to be downloaded from their website without the program. So back to mystery.

I can tell you exactly what is wrong with IE7 (and IE6) - it is a Micro$oft product! wink

What should one use instead of IE7? Well...

I just noticed this evening that Microsoft has an update already for IE7. It may or may not be a help for you.

I did not install it because I am quite satisfied with FireFox and could not see any reason install an update to a program that I will not be using.

My avatar disappeared, and I no longer have an option to restore it. Teething pains most likely.

Ha!

Alexandr, yours is the only avatar I can see properly in IE6. It looks perfect to me. Gordo's is squished. Everyone else has a line.

Back to Firefox.

Deacon El,

Go into "my Stuff", then my profile, on the top of the bar and you can then change your avatar to one in the gallery. Outside avatars are no longer being supported or allowed on the forum.

I hope this helps.

Thanks.

OK, after checking through several different browsers on both the Windows and Apple OS X, I have some good news and some bad news. The clue to the resolution, was the fact when other browsers were used, the issue was not apparent. The good news is that on Windows XP, the Firefox and Internet Explorer 6 browsers have everything show up especially the avatars. The same can be said on Apple OS X on Safari. Firefox, and Camino browsers.

Now for the bad news. Internet Explorer 7 (final version, not the Beta 2 version) is the apparent issue here. I have checked some other places, and have worked on settings from both my computers' end and with our settings here. I noticed it when the update was automatically installed for the final version. If you can, please use for the time being any of the above browsers other than IE7. If it does not bother you that you do not see any avatars or images, be my guest and work with IE7.

I hope this is of some help to those that are experiencing some difficulties.

I had problems with IE6, and I think one other person did as well. Firefox fixed everything for me.

Dear Wondering,

I think the ones that had problems with IE6 were just two posters. Almost everyone that has IE7 is having this issue. So I must agree with you, as Microsoft tries to make their browser more like Firefox, maybe they should really figure out why Firefox has become the popular browser in the past year or so.

Oh and when I can, and that is not always, I refuse to use Microsoft products. With some of their products, I have used them and the different versions that followed for almost 14 plus years. Though I have to say with their new product version line for January coming, i.e. VISTA and Office 2007, I am going to take a wait and see attitude towards the releases. Too many things that I have read from the Beta test results, that have me holding back for at least a year on acquiring either product.

Why has Firefox become so popular? Simply because it is not a M$ product! grin
