For future parents, a word of advice. Wouldn't it be easier just to pick a name from the lists of saints rahter than pick a popular name and try to stretch the truth by assigning a saint to that name?
Does anyone remember the good old days, when the child was named after the saint of day on which the child was born?

For future parents, a word of advice. Wouldn't it be easier just to pick a name from the lists of saints True. But, it is also true that there was a time when all of those saints' names were new -- because they were the first saints to bear that name. So, when I hear of a name like "Madison" that is basically new, I think: "Holy Spirit, please make one of them the first Saint Madison." rather than pick a popular name and try to stretch the truth by assigning a saint to that name? It doesn't bother me to pick a popular name or a saint's name for a child because it is Christ who saves and who prays for us. (" He is able to save those who approach God through Him since He lives forever to make intercession for them." Hebrews 8: 25) And, a person can ask whatever saint to pray for us, but is kind of nice to find someone who shares your name or background. One day, God willing, there is going to be a St. Kaitlyn or a St. Logan or a St. Madison. They, like the other saints, will become holy because they found friendship in Christ and in Christ's other friends. -- John

I was actually a little sad to see Sophia is in the top 10. I didn't realize it was so popular. That is the name we chose for our daughter, Sophia Elizabeth Anne. We chose from a list of saint's names. (We felt we had to load her up with the names in case she is our only daughter. You never know after 3 boys!)

My sister's name is Emma (born in 1994), but she is one the handful of Emmas I know, or have really ever encountered. I find it amazing that it's #1.
Obviously, the stats would be different because I was born in the mid 80s, but the names of girls my age that seem most popular are Sarah, Rachel, and Mary. I know at least 10 of each.

What are you talking about, Garrett? You grew up out there in the country west of Atlanta - where all the girls are named "Christy, Dawn, or Lisa." (insert smiley here)

Well, we named our son Ewan. It's an old name, but not a Saints name. I wanted something unique, but not made up (lol). He has Scotch and Irish in him, so that's what we went with. The main reason we decided to go with a more unique name is because my last name is Johnson. If I didn't have the second most popular last name in the US, we probably would have chosen an more traditional first name (maybe Peter or Harold)>
Just my two cents. I have a nephew named Aiden born last year!

I can't keep count of how many baby girls I've met recently who were named Emma Grace or Emma Rose. Beautiful, but popular.

LOL! Actually, my aunt's name IS Kristi, short for Kristine. I don't know a Dawn or Lisa, though! Guess we're breakin' the trend in West Georgia! Some of my relatives' names are, however: Ima Jean (pronounced eye-muh jeen), Dorothy Jean, Mary Jim, and Betty Lou. Oh, and I went to a small private school, and in my biology class there were only six of us: me (first name Samuel), Daniel, Leah, two Sarahs, Aaron, and a Rachel. I always thought to myself we sounded more like a class of Hasidic Jews than Baptists and Methodists at a Southern private school! LOL.

If you went to public school out there in Carroll or Haralson County, I guarantee you would have seen quite a few Christy, Misty, Dawn, and Lisa's. (And with plenty of "mall hair" to boot).

St. Emma Feastday: June 27 Emma was a relative of Emperor St. Henry II and also known as Hemma. She was raised at Henry's court by St. Cunegund, and according to legend was married to Landgrave William of Friesach. Their two children were murdered during an uprising of mines owned by William. Grief-stricken, he made a pilgrimmage to Rome and died on the way back. Emma then decided to devote her life to God. She gave liberally to the poor, founded several religious houses and a double monastery at Gurk,Austria, may have become a nun there. Despite the above legend, scholars believe she was of the Friesach family rather than William and that her son was killed in a battle twenty years after the death of her husband, Count William of Sanngan, about the year 1015, and it was at this time that she began her foundations. Her cult was confirmed in 1938. Her feast day is June 27th.
ST ABBAN, also known as Abben; Ewan Memorial 13 May Hermit at Abingdon (formely Abbendun), Berkshire, England, which is named for him. Noted preacher. Founded a monastery in Berkshire. May be the earliest Irish saint. Born 2nd century Ireland Canonized Pre-Congregation
Kaitlyn is, of course, a variant of Kathleen/Katherine.
