I think variety is the spice of life, seems everywhere I go on the forum, somehow there seems to be a different spice.

OK - now remember I'm working on a laptop :p
If I tilt my screen back so it's about 45 degrees from the horizontal I can now see the difference on the home page and it's more obvious if I darken my screen from where it normally is .
Can you darken the colours slightly please as long as it doesn't interfere with folk with desktops ? Questions for laptop users: 1. Does the main page look good? We're trying to find a balance. If it looks good but you would prefer it darker we can experiment. But what might look perfect on a laptop screen might be too dark on a lcd or crt screen. 2. If the main page does not look acceptable, why?

I'll throw another screen into the equation - mine is the Mac new glossy one As soon as I can today I'll go downstairs and put my old desktop on[ yes it's still with me as a back up wouldn't get anything if I sold it so I'll hang on to it ] and compare things on both screens. I know it's possible to calibrate things - but not knowing about such technical stuff I leave mine in the state in which it was delivered.

I'll throw another screen into the equation - mine is the Mac new glossy one ........ I now have Byzcath up on both pooters and am really surprised at the difference. 1) On the iMac [ desktop ] on the main page the horizontal bars are a strong blue and it is definitely blue . I can see the beige colours very clearly . The balance seems good 2) Now using the MacBook - Looking at the main page again - with my screen in its usual working position Just looking at the colour bars etc [ logo is possibly slightly darker/duller red but still very very nice] The blue horizontal bars have a more green tone in them but are still recognisably blue [ comparing them with the green lamps on my FF Tinseltown toolbar ] The bar with Forum list , my stuff etc etc has a sort of grey tint [ very faint ] there - difficult to describe the colour accurately as it is so faint Again when looking at the Forum listings I can just make out there is a difference in colour between the colours on threads and posts but until I really move my screen well back I can't make out that they are beige, and then the horizontal blue bars go towards the deeper shade [ I suppose you could call it teal ] . Perhaps someone else who has access to Laptop and Desktop could also comment ? I can certainly live with things as they are now - it's very clean looking. Other comments - what happened to the new Logo - I miss it - would like to see both Icons back. Hope these comments help Anhelyna

[font:Century Gothic]Dear John,
I am on a laptop, and the 'General Discussion/Forums' page looks very good with the dark teal blue. I also like the logo on the top left.
Regards, Alice[/font]

Thanks for the comments!
The new logo at the top left is temporary. Father Anthony is considering a number of designs. Preparing a logo is a lot of work and will take a bit of time. It needs to be small vertically and wider horizontally (like all titles). The one that was displayed for a few days was not meant for the Forum but was used for evaluation purposes (sometimes you need to put a design on the screen before everything falls into place on how what you want the final product to look like).
Please continue to comment on the color choices, especially whether it looks good or not. Each monitor (lcd, crt, etc.) and each browser (Firefox, Netscape, Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari, etc.) displays the colors and images differently. This means that there is no pleasing everyone (especially those with older monitors and browsers). Our goal is to find something that looks good on all monitors.
The current color settings do look slightly different on my monitors (crt, laptop and lcd). The blue bars come across as a dull blueish blue-green.

Very nice! No specific observations, but the overall appearance is very good.

John,
Nice job with the darker blue color. Nice logo, too.

OK - so colours have changed again
I'm on a Firefox Browser BTW
Now on the Lhand side we have blue horizontal bars in the column headed Site links - and it's markedly blue when you look at the teal used in the horizontal bars elsewhere. The very top one showing " Welcome etc " is a rather greyer blue.
Comment - maybe too many different colours ?

OK - feedback needed. The blue color for the bar with "Today's Scripture" is the starting point.
The main header (starting with www.byzcath.org [byzcath.org]) is another color.
The left column headers (starting with "Site Links") is another blue (brighter).
The footer is another blue (darker than the original).[They are bolded above but they will look different in text than they do in the horizontal title bars.] Please comment on each, referring to them as "Scripture Original", "Main Header", "Left Column" and "Footer". [It would be great if responders used: "Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor and Ugly" to describe the colors.] Some are close and not all monitors will show a difference. Please especially comment on the color for the left column. The colors should be pleasing but they should not shout at you. Thanks!

OK - here we go
Scripture - Original - nice - clear -looks good - Summary for that -- GOOD
Main Header - a bit dull -- Fair
Left Column - too light - not distinctive enough -- Fair
Footer -- Fair

Less is more!
Two or three shades of blue should suffice!
Thus, the "header" and the "footer" should be of the same color: either the "purplish" header or the "dark blue" footer.
The "scripture" and "site links" banners are differentiated nicely and they can be interchanged, depending on your choice.
Or, they could also be of the same shade of blue. I think the red/maroon/rusty red/wine red/ox blood red/ line separator is sufficient to delineate each page area. (The line separator should always follow the color of the "The Byzantine Forum" flag banner, as it is now.)
Impressive work!
