Dear Juliana,

Fr. Serafim Rose was quite an Orthodox fundamentalist. The Charism of speaking in tongues, is not commonly experienced among the Orthodox.

Although my experiences with the Pentacostals has not been pleasant, (I hate elitism), I do believe that speaking in tongues does exist...althoug it appears to be a useless charism ...that is unless someone understands what is being spoken and becomes edified. wink

Of course God can give his gifts freely and to whom and to whoever He wishes. If one gift is given to some, with the intent of having them become close to Him, and another gift is given to another with the same purpose, who am I or anyone to deny them that God Giving benefit.

Our Lord approaches all in whichever way He sees fit. wink smile wink

Saint Seraphim of Sarov, as well as other saints, said that we must become reborn in the Spirit. I can't help but feel that being reborn in the Spirit, and baptized in the Holy Spirit is basically the same thing...don't you? confused
