Waste Not, Watt Not

"The cow is of the bovine ilk;
One end is moo; the other, milk."

If Ogden Nash were writing this poem today, he might want to add a line or two. In the new millennium, both ends of our bovine friends are under scrutiny but for very different reasons. While governments are trying to figure out how to control cow burping, a significant factor in global warming, cow manure is gaining popularity as one of Earth's greenest sources of electricity.

Interesting article ! Thank you for posting that !

Frontiersmen, traditional farmers, and East Indians have known the wonders of cow poop for millenia. I suspect that everyone has. If cow burping will warm up the world please let them burp. It is at 0 here in Chicagoland and expected to drop into the teens below zero. Burp on on bovine friends, please, burp some more.

Please remember: according to the traditional Chinese calendar, 15 February marks the opening of the Year of the Pig. Nominations for an official mascot are welcome.

I vote for a Vietnamese Pot Bellied Pig as the official mascot this year. They can be litter trained, and are very affectionate.

His name? Pork chop, of course.

Methane in Lake Kivu: Large quantities of methane and carbon dioxide are dissolved at the bottom Lake Kivu which lies on the border of Congo and Rwanda, Africa. In January of this year, nearby Mount Nyiragongo erupted. If lava were to flow into Lake Kivu, the heating effect would cause the methane and carbon dioxide to be released, with potentially deadly results.

If this ocurred, what would the cows think? Would they still be happy cows? Is this the source of the Silent Killer?

Hmm. That raises the possibility of a pet pig in the house. And does anyone remember the year when aa pig (named Pigasus) ran for President of the USA?
