Dear Dangerous Dan,

I'm kind of surprised at the reactions on this thread. Doesn't Harry Potter delve into the occult? eek eek eek

Zenovia - this has been discussed umpteen times in the past.

I think there are many of us who just enjoy the books as light reading.

I can't think of any incident in the books where good has not prevailed

Yes - it really is not a "how to" book of occultism. And good often does win out over evil, often at the cost of sacrificial love. If an individual really wanted to delve deeply into the worldview of the Potter books looking for guidance on how one should lead his or her life, it could be problematic. But then again, that would be a misuse of the books and not the author's intent.

Now if I can only find my golden snitch....

For an interesting and scholarly examination of the worldview of Harry Potter, see http://www.amazon.com/Harry-Potter-.../103-4995363-3563049?ie=UTF8&s=books

I have used this text as a companion volume in beginning Philosophy courses. The students have found it very interesting and it has been a useful "open the door" kind of trick to get them thinking about important issues like: faith vs. magic, virtue ethics, etc.

To be honest, for years I thought that these books were "bad" and recommended to people that they not read them or allow their children to read them. Then I caught my 16-year old son reading them in his room under the covers blush When I confronted him with his duplicity, he asked me point-blank: "Have you read them? How can you oppose something you have never read?"

Thus challenged, I read them ... and to my surprise, they did not contain the horrors that had been attributed to them and were actually quite a bit of fun! So ... although I do not condone my son's deceit ... I have to admit that he was right!

She's alluded to killing him off in the past. She said it would be preferable so that no one could take up the series or expect her to continue on. She's clearly stated that there is no chance of future Potter books. She'd be unlikely to limit her future choices that way if she hadn't made the distinct decision that Potter will be no more. Plus, she wouldn't be as emotional about killing off Mr. Weasley. I think 1 at least, possibly 2, of the main 3 characters will die.

There is the possibility that Ron dies, saving Hermoine with sacrificial love. That is a recurring theme and she's not gone through the trouble of weaving the Ron-Hermoine romance for nothing. But it just wouldn't have the same impact on the reader. We'd be bittersweet knowing that Ron, the faithful friend, was true to the end and saved our favorite character. She doesn't go for the bittersweet losses. She goes for the heart-wrenching, unexplainable losses. She brings in Sirius, just to sweep him out again. She builds up Dumbledore, just to kill him off like that. I think her style leads more to killing off Harry. She'll be sad about it, but it is something she'll feel she has to do for the story's sake.

That's my guess. smile

Dear Our Lady's Slave of Love,

I was not aware of any past discussions, (my memory is caput), but regardless, no matter how old discussions are, subjects can and should be re-discussed, otherwise it would be a very boring forum. Not to mention that we would lose a lot of participants...and that certainly wouldn't be fair to the administrator. After all, on a discussion forum all should be able to express their viewpoints.

Besides, I think the above posts show that Harry Potter is being discussed right now. Well I guess since they are positive towards the Harry Potter books, they don't matter. Hmmm! I guess only the negative one's are off limits. Can't help but wonder what happened to free speech? confused But then again, it's not my forum.

Well, to get back to the subject, I wouldn't touch Harry Potter with a ten foot pole. Can't help but wonder where the inspiration for Rowlands idea's are coming from...but we can leave that to one's personal discernment. wink

I hope that you are well, and that you find my posts easier to read. I know that you found some difficulty in reading colors.

Zenovia
