CIX!

Lent is coming, so here's a bit of humour for all out there...

How does Благообразны Иосиф translate? Are you sure? Now take a peek at this [answers.com], paying special attention to track 2.

I haven't had this much fun since hearing that Zarubezhnaya was translated as 'outlandish', giving a church title of "Russian Orthodox Outlandish Church".

Any lovely howlers out there?

in Domino,

Edward

I put it into a couple online translation engines and they spit out, "Are comely Joseph," and, "They are fine looking Joseph."

Then there was that programme with 'We are saluting you, Holy Virgin'. That sounded a bit off, as did 'Heart up, land of Russia' and the icon entitled 'Mirth of Mourners'.

And of course, in English is probably NOT appropriate to refer to the Mother of God as a "flaming queen."

"But.... is in Slavonic!"
