SLAVA ISUSU CHRISTU!
Lemko Rusyn wrote:"...Ljucina is known as "the Lourdes of Slovakia"...
Actually, for SLOVAKS, Levoca is considered to be the "Lourdes of Slovakia". The Basilica sits high on a hilltop and there is a spring where faithful Slovaks get bottles of Holy Water.
The Otpust to Levoca is usually the first weekend in July. This is the same weekend as the DETVA Festival which celebrates Slovak Folk Culture. This weekend for DETVA was chosen by the Communists to keep the faithful from attending the Otpust at Levoca.
Hope this helps...

I'm curious to see what they've published. Picked up a copy of their Molytvoslov. Can't say that I love it but it is a handy volume and contains a lot of Vespers/Matins materials in Ukrainian, which have been difficult to find. [That is, until the UOC-KP started publishing some great volumes: trebnyk, triodion, pentecostarion, etc.) I have a copy of the Trebnyk published by Svichado - quite nice. I can make the arrangements for one to appear in your letter box. Just say the word. Andrij

BUT, we have to work from OCS originals. I hear Mohyla wrote some good stuff Andrij

Shhh, you arent't supposed to reveal our sources, Agent K063AP... I think the Trebnik Lauro is referring to is the old Wysochansky Euchologion in either English or Ukrainian (the older Basilian). Also the English translation of the "full" Basilian Molitvoslov is available, but 100$! Ouch! You can get the Ukrainian from Basilian Press for about 1/3 that cost...or cheaper in Ukraine, eh Andrij? Love that KP Chasoslov (when I can get it away from my son Nikolai) Lemko is very correct, we should leave the vostochnik trebnik discussion for another thread and get this one back to its intended use. Lemko, are the Catholic and Orthodox Odpusti in Ljucina concurrent or separate?

However, I do believe that some years both pilgrimages were actually held at the same time! The Greek Catholic parish church in the village has the status of Minor Basilica. Interestingly, the recently-constructed Orthodox church (I have a nice postcard of it) inside looks almost exactly like the G.C. basilica. The ikonostas is virtually identical...

Is this the church to which you are referring? http://www.grkatpo.sk/fotoalbumy/grafika/48_8.jpg I rather like the iconostas. It kind of reminds me of the one in Kingston. I was surprised to see in that pic, though, that the church has an analoj instead of a tetropod! Perhaps that's the difference between the Orthodox and Greek Catholic churches: the Orthodox might have a tetropod. heh Dave

Diak, if you look in the bottom right corner you can see the edge of a pew. In Christ, Anthony Originally posted by Diak: Are there pews in that church, Dave, I can't really tell.

I rather like the iconostas. It kind of reminds me of the one in Kingston. [/b]Yep, that's the basilica (the parish church). There is a small chapel up in the woods on the hillside where St. Nicholas appeared; that also appears in a few of the photos. It seems to be very plain except for the altar with the Ljucinska Bozha Maty icon hanging above it. Doncha know that ikonostas is also like the one in Mayfield! St. John's GC Church in Northampton, Pa. has a very similar one as well.

Yeah, similar to Mayfield as well! (I hear that they used to have a baldacchino too, but Fr. Stroyen removed it during his time there.) I was never in the GC church in Northampton, just the Orthodox one which, if I recall, is next door. My loss, I suppose.

While this thread is about the massive, popular otpusti that happen, I am wondering about smaller, local pilgrimages that occur. For example, going to a neighboring church on their parish feast. I hear that is/was rather common in kraju; any comments?

One of these, in the village Olchowiec in Lemkovyna, has become quite a big deal in and of itself (since there aren't that many Lemkos living there anymore). It's sort of like a folk festival along with the religious element. BTW I love your Klokočovska avatar...
